Mandatory meltdown thread.
Except, I'm not really all that disappointed we lost for some reason. I guess I figured the seven game streak had to end sometime. Still, to go 1-1 against ranked teams ain't a bad week.
Now, it does suck that we lost as bad as we did. We're obviously not that bad of a team. You know we're having a bad shooting night when Hoskins is our leading three point shooter, and Maybank is our leading overall scorer. But the offense, as miserable as it was, I could deal with. Any time we score over 60, it's not the offense that's the problem. What bugged me was our horrible defense, and letting ku get so many second chance shots. Rebounding and defense are what we live and die by, and we got dominated in that tonight, and we lost big. That's a credit to ku for keeping us out of our game, especially by forcing us to play as fast paced as the game was, but at the same time we shouldn't have let that happen. Tempo is something we've been able to dictate all season long(unless we're playing some odd style like Mizzou's.) ku does have size on us, but they played with more effort, which isn't something I'm used to seeing since Huggins has become our coach.
The only good things I took out of this game is that we discovered Maybank is amazing at driving to the basket, which is something neither Clent or Blake have been all that great at. I guess losing, especially in the style we did, will get our guys attention and motivate them to play hard nosed defense again, because they sure as hell didn't tonight.
Ah well. Looking back on my preseason expectations, this is about what I would have expected, except the 7 game winning streak coming into this game. Not a bad place to be in the season with our talent and a first year coach. On to the puffs.
