Ed Hightower

Does this guy annoy anyone else. He used to do CUSA games. He thinks hes refing a basketball game between God and the devil or something. He takes himself way too seriously.

I love him, he's an old school Big 8 official and knows the game well.

You can always count on Hightower to screw KSU on a marginal call or two down the stretch in close games.  He's been doing that for many years now and I'm quite surprised that he didn't do it again tonight.

Hightower appeared to be thoroughly pissed at Bennett after JB fouled a tiger and knocked him 10 ft off the court.

Hightower loves to insert himself into the drama and jarrr you are right on the money.  I don't think he's necessarily biased, he just over dramatizes everything. 

I love his 3-4 second pauses just so he knows everyone is looking at him and then he'll make his call like he's a mime acting out Hamlet.

He's better than most, but he needs to remember he's not what the fans pay to see perform.

In other words, Ed, you're not part of the show, so quit acting like it.

Quit mixing me up with Kid b/c he stole my avatar to mock Stew.  I think Hightower is a fine official, just a little melodramatic at times.

He's the guy that gave self the fake "T" last year in manhattan and then T'd wooly for taking his jacket off.

have hated him since the 70's.  He ALWAYS has at least one call where he sees a foul from 30 feet away, where the ref standing right there looking directly at the play sees nothing.  He is without a doubt one of the worst ever.  And yes, I know he's seen as one of the best, don't ask me how, other than its other refs seeing it....so there ya go.

You know he's bald actually?  Don't know if he's wearing a rug or got hair implants or what but he's a vain little weenie of a joke.  Terrible referee.  Did you see in the game last night where he let Akeem (i think) make the call for him?  He's blown his toy and was about to make a call when he let our guy talk him out of it. 

He used to show up for our games against MU and ku, completely job us over and over, then dissappear back to whatever conference he was actually in.  Hate him, personally hate him.  If I met him I'd punch him straight in the nose, no doubt about it.

I also think Hightower is one of the best refs there is, but last night I think he thought he was in a play or something. Every time he called a foul, I was reminded of Ron Burgundy on the diving board:

"Ladies and gentlemen, can I please have your attention. I've just been handed an urgent and horrifying news story. I need all of you, to stop what you're doing and listen.........charge!"

a friend and I have watched him for several years at the B12 tourney and counted one game when he "tugged" 72 times at his pants............. funniest Sh*t .....we had several rows counting with us

Did anyone (besides me) know that Hightower and Huggins are best friends?  They have even gone fishing together, and always have a pleasant chat before games.  I think about that when Huggins is ripping into Ed during the games.  I wonder just exactly what is said between them when they aren't on the court...

well I certainly did think that last night, the calls by ole eddie were much less flagrant against KSU, so that lends a little credibility to your statement about a friendship.  Although it seems like a distinct conflict of interest if true.

Ed's a showboat for sure, but he's a solid ref imo.  He does have a propensity to call a foul from the farthest point, which has always bugged me.  But he's not alone in that department. 

 For you (other) verterans I'm sure you remember Jim Bain.

Now HE was poor ref.

I ranked Baine just a hair above Ed.  It was only fun when ku was playing MU and those two were working.  They'd make up so many calls trying to give each of their babies the game.  Baine babysit MU and hightower ku.  They both suck(ed).

Hes actually the guy that was a roaster at the Huggins roast a few years ago. He was by far the most interesting of the roasters.
