I guess Ian Campbell said that he's going to be playing more of a linebacker position next year.

His body type is pretty much perfect for that 'linebacker' that can also run up and go head to head with a tight end if need be when the defense calls for it.

That position is absolutely perfect for campbell. He's got the speed to play an outside LB and the size needed to take on OL and TE. I think the 3-4 has a chance to work with Campbell and The Freak on the outside. With our severe lack of DT, maybe this will help with our run D, although one strong DT is absolutely necessary for the 3-4 to have any chance of working.

Where'd you hear that the 3-4 is going to be the D next year?

Speaking of 3-4, ku has never had a better conferece record than that.
It is a tragedy because now, we have at least an extra month without Cat football until next year. I hate wasting my life away but I can hardly wait until next year.

You're about three years behind on that statement.

you guys are gonna be scrwed big time if you run that 3-4.  are you freaking kidding me?  your biggest weakness last year was d-line, and you lost your best d-line member.  On top of that your fuc*ing genius of a coach has 30 kids commited and not one dt amongst the newcomers.  hey I got an idea, take the weakest position from last year and then expect them to do more with less, give them a ton of extra responsability but don't recruit any help from them.  I can absolutely see why so many coaches left the sinking ship.

what a bunch of clueless tards.  you know why you don't see the 3-4 at the college level as anyones base defense?  because very few teams have the talent to run it.  Do you guys have a monster 325-330 pound NT that can dominate every play to the point where they need to put 2 men on him?  do you guys have a pair of adam carriker like Ends?

I hope to god you run that defense.  the 3-4 is designed to stop the run first.  The only way you get a good pass rush is with blitzes.  I sure hope you guys run a defense designed to stop the run with a weak d-line.  your new DC will be one and done

You guys are screwed if you have to run a cover 2. You simply do not have the personnel.

The 3-4 will matchup better against the spreads that teams like tt, bailer, and moo play as well as the north platte coast offense.  Won't have to guard the run vs ku with no rb's. cu and isu will still be shiite for at least next year.  ut, you just try and catch them on a bad day and hurt their QB. blow-u will be under the gun from the ncaa again soon and stoops will be gone, but will still be a player for another couple years.  osu is still osu.

K-State have none of the personnel to run a 3-4 defense. They have no DL. They have no DL with any size or strength required to make a 3-4 look even serviceable. The linebackers they've been recruiting are small and undersized for the Tampa 2 type defense Morris was trying to implement. They don't have 280 lb DEs or a wrecker at the NT. What a trainwreck.  :ksu:

Why can't we just do something normal?

Because we don't have the athletes to run a normal defense; therefore we have to resort to what look like gimmicks.

I guess that's why we don't need 10 DT's on scholarship, since we'll use one.

It's always interesting to me when Cornhole State fans offer their opinions about what will and won't work at KSU.   The same people that will almost violently defend the biggest loser @ Cornhole State in 40 years . . .  Bill Slashahan.

Just think, Cornhole fans once grumbled about Doctor Tom Osborne during 2 or 3 distinct periods.   One of the "worst" stretches for old Tom, lets see here . . .  why it once took Doc Tom 7 years to lose 16 games.   Slashahan almost matched that in 3 .    It took Frank Solich 5 years to lose 15 games . . . Slashahan . . . just 3.

I'd never looked at Gabriel Crews profile before, Willie.  As a freshman at 310ish, he could develop into a pretty good nose tackle.

The more I look at our roster, the less screwed I feel when it comes to our defensive line.  None of them will be the preffered size, but they're not going to get absolutely destroyed either.  As long as they can hold their position long enough for the linebackers to get in there and make the tackle, we'll be fine.

The real question is how the 3-4 will defend against the spread.  I don't know how well Ian Campbell would be able to cover Martin Rutger or Chase Coffman, for example.

I hate to add to the wild speculation, and the well thought out dumbassery of our cornhole friends . . . but has anyone considered that a "3-4" type defense may only be a situational defense??

LOL at NU fans saying we have no DL. Ian Campbell was first team all big 12 and was named conference defensive player of the year by some services.  Rob Jackson also got all league honors and was playing at a very high level by the end of last season perhaps even better then Campbell.

There are some question marks on the interior but it's not as bad as people make it out to be.  Junior Moran is a good football player when he was healthy he played quite well.  If NU fans don't believe me pop in the tape of the NU game last year he lived in the backfield that night and finished the game with 3 tackles for loss.  Unfortanatley he got hurt after that game and the defense was not the same after that.  Steve Cline is a solid guy hard nosed with lots of experience.  We'll need some other guys to step up like Brandon Balkcom, Zach Kendall,  Gabe Crews and possibly Trevor Viers but it' it's not like we have no one in there.

As far as the 3-4 goes I agree with those that say our personell doesn't fit that style well.  But I don't think we're actually going to see it and if we do I think it will be purely a situational defense.
