That Knight character can coach a little and they are in progress of locking up an NCAA bid. First place in Big 12 a 1/3 of the way thru the conf slate. Funny. Law tried to miss a FT on purpose and instantly went over the line. Dum Dum move.

We'll do it together. I moved here in Summer 1996. Last time we made the NCAA's was spring 1996.

Not good for us in terms of competing for that fifth NCAA slot. But this one was pretty easy to pick. A&M was overrated, TTU was underrated.

We'll still finish in the top 5 of the conference, because OSU, A&M, TTU, and UT will beat eachother up, while we destroy the nortards. What that means in terms of us competing for an NCAA bid I'm not exactly sure.

Really, the team just needs to concentrate on winning and the rest will take care of itself. But I do think at this point that we need at least one upset of the top 4 in order to pull off a bid, because there's no way 6 Big XII teams get picked.

NU losing to UT was much more damaging imo. We need north teams and OU to pick apart the OSU,UT,ATM,TTU quadrio.

Tech is still an unproven team on the road. Sure they beat us in Manhattan, but they also lost to Baylor on the road. Tech still has a chance to fall back to earth if they continue to struggle on the road (as they usually have done under Knight).

The bad news: A couple of wins like these raises the possibility that the NCAA takes Tech over us even if we finish a game or two in front of them in the Big 12 standings.

The good news: These wins are still pretty early (Big 12-wise), if they struggle towards the end of the season the selection folks could put less stock in their early success.

Prognosis: Our road to the tourney remains the same. Dominate the Big 12 north weaklings to make our record stand out. Pick up a resume' building win against one (or two) of ku, TU, OSU, and ~~ATM~~. Win a game or two in the Big 12 tourney.

Wait and see.........

Like you touched on later, we'll need one or two comparable wins regardless.

Agreed. TTech is only one of the teams that we need to worry about. Every other major conference will have a team or two just like us, finishing in the 4 to 6 range, having somewhere in the neighborhood of 20 wins. I can see as many as ten other teams falling into the same category. We need a win or two that sets us apart from such teams, especially because the Big 12 is perceived as a weaker conference this year.

I must admit I am nervous.

If you look at things right now, which is limited b/c there is a bunch of basketball to be played, the teams we will be competing with look to be OSU and UT. I think OSU could become very vulnerable b/c of their lack of depth and that their good players have to play so many minutes. They've got some very talented guys, but they are within striking distance. Also, we could be going to UT with a ton of confidence and UT coming off a loss. Plus, NU was able to stay with UT pretty well and probably should've beat them and UT didn't look great against a decent Villanova team playing without its best player. Both UT and OSU look to be teams we can beat and we'll need to beat at least one on the road. This is going to be interesting to watch.

Tech will take some lumps, too, FAN. I think there will be 3 or 4 teams fighting for 3rd in conference.

True, they'll have plenty of tough road games. However, back to back wins vs ku and aTm is a nice spot to be in, with a shot to beat UT this week. Of course they still have to got to UT, OSU, and aTm.

Yeah, NU pulling off the upset vs UT last night would've been good for us.

I suppose we just have to take care of our business; hold serve at home, beat OSU or UT, and win a game in OKC.

Here's what J-Mart had to say:
AI'm tired of the talk about signature wins. Let me ask you this - would you rather have a signature win or win 10 games in your conference? If you play in a so-called major conference and win 10 games, you've done something right - even if you don't have a signature win. If the season plays out how you've suggested - and I have no reason to think it won't - how could you penalize a team that hasn't been to the tournament in 10 years for winning the games on its schedule that it should but wasn't able to in the past? I think they'd get in. The USC victory - remember, the Pac-10 is the media darling this year - is probably going to hold up as K-State's signature win, by the way.

He makes a great point. Wooly had quite a few signature wins when you think about it. (@ku, UT, OSU, UT, etc.)
