    The very best.
It is a tragedy because now, we have at least an extra month without Cat football until next year. I hate wasting my life away but I can hardly wait until next year.

Good news.  Last night on the NBA post-game, they were discussing Webber to Detroit and Barkley said Webber had a good basketball IQ.  Being a Piston fan, I'll be watching Webber frequently and thus, should see marked improvement in my own basketball IQ.  Hopefully, some of that can rub off on all of us basketball neanderthals.

I love these posts after losses:

Quote
Okay, we lost.  It's disappointing.  It's frutstrating.  You'd think some of us were playing.

There were a lot of things that went wrong.  There were some that went right.  Things were set up where this was not totally unexpected.  We hadn't played extremely well in the last couple of victories.  We were playing against the winningest coach of all-time who had several days to get ready for us.  We were playing in a hostile environment where the crowd just got louder and louder and helped boost their players.  Excuses?  Not really.  Just the way things happened.  Life is tough on the road, and we aren't going to win them all.

The most frustrating part to me is the ending.  We had unbelieveably gotten back even.  We had "old Mo" on our side.  Then we turned our backs, and everything we had gained was lost.  One never knows for sure, but I believe that if we had not have done that we would have won the game.  I am sure that will end up being Coach's fault, too, but things happen.  We were just trying to get the defense set up and didn't realize that everybody was looking for their man.  Collins was walking away towards his, pointing back for someone to pick the guy up.  Too bad.

The ball movement on this team is difficult to figure out at times.  Sometimes we don't move it enough.  We take ill-advised shots and early in the clock.  Other times we make too many passes.  We drive to the hole and try to dish it to someone who is covered by three defenders.  When we do it right, then we get a lot of good looks and easy baskets.  It's hard to draw the line.  When is being unselfish being too unselfish?

Russell continues to get some heat from posters on the board.  But I thought he was one of our two better guards yesterday.  He shut down Jackson the first half.  He made some critical shots.  Sure, he was far from perfect, which seems to be what ku fans expect.  I'm not going to get into the debate anymore about who should start.  That's Coach's decision.  But RR is going to get minutes on this team, and we are going to need them to be good minutes - just like everybody else.

Julian's another that had an off-day who will catch some heat.  And, he probably deserves some of it.  You can't develop potential if you don't play.  We all know that he has great skills.  Sometimes he simply tries to do too much.  If he could concentrate on the fundamental stuff first and throw in the highlight stuff when it's available, then I think he would feel more - and be - more productive.  But we need him on the floor a lot, too.  We just don't have the rebounders to replace him.  Darrell does a good job, but he's learning, and he can't be out there all the time.  One of the big keys, in my mind, is still Jackson.  Darnell is the only other banger, besides Sasha, that we have.  It's tough to play against some of these teams with all finesse players.

We need Mario to snap out of it.  I guess he looked pretty good early, although I didn't get to see it.  When they showed the highlights of those first couple of minutes it looked like Mario's defense was a big key to getting the easy hoops.  We need better shooting on the perimeter.  Sherron gives us that.  Mario has given us that.  Russell has even helped out at times.  If we ever get consistent at it, then that will really open up the middle for Sasha and Darrell.  And it will be a lot easier for Julian to get those passes through to them.

Sherron did a good job.   He tries to make things happen.  He pushes the ball, and he has become a much better defender.  There's no doubt that the weight loss has made him even a step quicker.  He shouldn't have walked away with his back turned before making sure someone else was coming to help.  I only say that because he is human, too.  We, as fans, put a lot of expectations on Rush coming in.  Then after Florida we heaped it on Wright.   Mario was next.  And now it is Sherron.  When Sherron has an off-night, then what are we going to do?

It was a team thing.  Rush didn't come through in the way we hope he will.  Kaun did some good things, but the motion offense is tough to guard.  You have to be continually moving on defense, too.  Darrell made some really nice looking shots early, and then couldn't get one down even from up close.  We missed a bunch of chippies.  We only shot four free-throws.  And that wasn't necessarily the officiating.  We didn't be aggressive enough taking the ball to the hole to get fouled.

It was just a tough game where we didn't perform like we are capable of.  We expect big things from our team because they are good players with lots of skills.  But sometimes we simply expect them to be perfect, and they are not.  There is no doubt in my mind that we have some of the best athletes with the highest abilities as anyone in the country.  For whatever reason, we just don't all get it together at the same time that often.  I'd rather see it in March than now, but the frustration now leads us to have doubts.

Enjoy the ride as difficult as that is sometimes.  We all look forward to the next game.  Don't get me wrong.  I want us to win as much as the next fan.  I'd have loved it if we had gone through the conference undefeated.  But that really wasn't realistic.  It's very rare that it happens.  But people were already talking about it after the OSU win.  Such is the roller coaster that is college sports.  There's only so many games left.  I'm going to enjoy each and every one of them.  I'm going to get my hopes up and maybe have them dashed - only to get them up again.

I think we are going to have an exciting season.  I think we will show the country what kind of team we have and what kind of fans we have.  This isn't over yet.

Have a great day.  We get to see another game.  One of these days the season will be over, and we will wish there was more to see.

Rock Chalk.

There was real gem by jayhox after our moral loss in Ames.  He said his "personal game will suffer after watching our moral loss".

Since reading that, I have this image in my mind of the latest Adiddas commercial, where the chunky white guy (jayhox) in the RecSpecs keeps yelling: "We got next"!!!!  Then he asks his embarrassed teamate:  "Hey!!! Did you get those plays I faxed over to you"? as they step on the court.

I was disappointed there was no sartorial criticism of Huggs attire from Doc "Jeffrey's" Holliday.

Love the hated jealousy shown towards ku.  Keep it comin.

So you love something that is hated, and the thing that is hated is jealousy.

Sounds like something out of Monty Python.

"First shalt thou take out the Holy Pin. Then shalt thou count to three, no more, no less. Three shall be the number thou shalt count, and the number of the counting shall be three. Four shalt thou not count, neither count thou two, excepting that thou then proceed to three. Five is right out. Once the number three, being the third number, be reached, then lobbest thou thy Holy Hand Grenade of Antioch towards thy foe, who, being naughty in my sight, shall snuff it.

On getting everyones "A" game.

I wrote:

Quote
I never said that teams put as much stock and emotion in playing against KSU and Colorado.  My point is that everyone says ku plays down to the competition.  If this was the case they would be playing with as much, if not more, emotion than their competition.  So, saying teams get up and bring their "A" game against ku, then saying ku plays down to their competition is contradicting.

The response:

My post was directed to JesusS.

and that was the end of the discussion.

Wow...shocking:

Quote

I can't think of anything else other than the coach to pin it on.

Yet, Self still outcoached Huggy . . . by a mile.

No more of this "K-State isn't our rival" business. AFH was fired up last night in a way only a rivalry fuels, and you all know it. More than OSU. More than A&M.

OSU -- No.
A&M -- He!! no.
The run against OSU was much louder than our runs against K-State.  The pre-game atmosphere was pretty blah, actually.

I'm baffled that our seniors didn't show up last night. Did not see that coming. Not this year.

Coaching, according to your theory about Self.

Jermaine freaking Maybank?! If he shows up without Martin or Harris disappearing on any given night, we could score a lot of points on the perimeter without godlike 3-point shooting a la @Tejas.

Further proving Texas can't play defense and you guys needed a miracle from Harris to win that one.  What are the odds of that happening again?

This may sound silly, but I actually like K-State's chances in Bramlage more after this game than I did before. See: K-State vs. New Mexico 2-game series.

I doubt you can make the leap in improvement between now and then that you did back earlier in the season.  Oh, and New Mexico has officially been flushed down the crapper so that is another meaningless win to the NCAA Selection Committee.
