Hadn't seen this posted here, and can't find a link. This morning on KSN out of Wichita they were reporting that Tyree had been dismissed from the Butler team. Didn't specify why.

    Fear the Brick
He's gone according to the Eagle.

Butler dismisses Tyree Evans
BY JEFFREY PARSON
The Wichita Eagle
After Kansas State stopped his recruitment due to an off-court issue, Tyree Evans was given a second chance by Butler Community College.

That opportunity ended Tuesday, when Butler announced Evans, its leading scorer, has been dismissed from the Grizzlies for what coach Randy Smithson called "conduct detrimental to the team's cohesiveness."

In a statement, Smithson said the action had nothing to do with off-court or legal transgressions.

"We didn't feel like we were getting all (we ask) from Tyree," Smithson said. "We're looking for kids who want to play the game the way we want it played."

Entering the Christmas break, Evans was averaging 18.4 points, seventh best in the Jayhawk Conference. But a week ago, Evans scored seven points on 2-of-8 shooting in less than 15 minutes off the bench, a limited role Smithson said was due to Evans returning late from Christmas break.

Evans did not play in Saturday's victory at Garden City. The Grizzlies (8-7,1-1 Jayhawk West) play at No. 19 Hutchinson (13-2, 0-1) tonight.

A 6-foot-3 guard from Richmond, Va., Evans scored 884 points during his senior season of high school. That is the third-best season total in Virginia history, trailing Allen Iverson and Moses Malone.

But Evans had off-court issues that led to K-State deciding against offering him a scholarship. In July, two weeks after K-State made the decision, Evans reached a plea agreement on charges of statutory rape of a 15-year-old female schoolmate in 2004 at Winchendon Prep School in Massachusetts. Evans was placed on probation for two years after pleading guilty to the reduced charge of assault and battery.

At the hearing to announce his plea agreement, Evans told the judge he would attend Butler.

"By golly," Smithson said at the time, "I want to give him a shot to help himself."

Goddamnit Tyree.
It is a tragedy because now, we have at least an extra month without Cat football until next year. I hate wasting my life away but I can hardly wait until next year.

My friend told me that this story in the paper was done before Tyree met with Smithson. THe meeting went well and while he was suspended for the game tonight, he will be back for the next one.

    Overkill. It works.
I hope he NEVER wears a KSU uniform.  EVER.  He sounds like a team cancer--Yeah, that's JUST what we need.  We've got enough problems as it is.

I'd still give him a shot.  Dude would take a bullet for Huggins.

Plus, if he screwed up it would pretty much guarantee that no one will try to steal Huggs away from us.

While I might not go quite that far, there reaches a point where you have to wonder if a kid is going to change.  It sure doesn't seem like it.  This was basically his 2nd chance after Weiser's comments this summer and it doesn't seem to me Evans has done a great job living up to his part of the deal.

I'm fine with moving on to other players at this point, namely this guy and his 30 PPG while being 2nd on the team in assists.

I'd say that it's pretty hard to take someone that is supposed to be on their best behavior and knowingly under a microscope yet still can't refrain from screwing things up.  I guess we'll find out how hard it is for Huggins to do.

LMAO!! And you think Turgon would turn his nose up at this kid if he had a shot of landing him!  Talent is talent and WSU would like to have some more of that of late. Please,  Evans will play somewhere! I have more reservation about Smithson than I do Evans. Who checked themselves  into rehab? Smithson is not a bright man. You weren't around Wichita when he ran off a top one hundred recruite? I think his name was Marice Evans. You know the one now playing for the Lakers!JMHO

Any chance he can suit up for us this semester?  Classes don't start till tomorrow.  Didn't Coach say we have offense problems, Evans seems to be fairly offensive.

WTF? Nice rant, too bad it has basically nothing to do with my post. Why are you bagging on Smithson? I know Smithson is a major douche, no one is disputing that. I sincerely hope Turgeon would never consider taking on a kid like Evans, no matter how talented.

Shocker dude, no rant just the truth. You bad mouthing Evans. My post has everything to do with your post! LOL  You admit that I'm  right about Smithson. I can see Evans having problems with Smithson. He couldn't coach Evans! Smithson can't coach real tallent. He was never that tallented and I think he resents those that are. Don't think for a moment Mark would never look at a player like Evans! Mark T. wants to win. So does the AD!!! As far as your hoping that Turgeon would never consider taking on a kid like Evans! I guess your ok with the team you currently have. Almost good enough but not quite. Don't jump Turgeons Azz when he can't get over the top or the round house doesn't sell out!!!  Kind of Pias aren't you?

Now, have your girl friend contact Shelly at the baseball complex.  She would make a great addition to the WSU program!!!  :woohoo: :woohoo: :woohoo:

No crack here shocker dude! Truth is truth! Bottom line here is Smithson is not qualified to coach a talent like Evan. Now quit discrimating against a poor minority that just needs a second chance. Just admit it. Evans would be a big deal for WSU.

So what about baseball? The baseball team is ranked higher than the basketball team!!!

About all I've seen from Tyree is that he's a career fu*k-up.  That's a hard cycle to break when its all that you know.  And judging by his most recent exploits, he's nowhere close to cleaning up his act.  The further he stays away from Manhattan, the better.

The questions become could he really help this team win and how long would he last?

Here's a kid who essentually came to Kansas to keep his nose clean for one year so he could play for Huggins.  Think of the stellar individuals (Ricky Clemons for one) who routinely make it through JUCO programs with flying colors.   Now here's a kid that's been kicked off or nearly gotten the boot.  That says a lot about him and at this point even if Smithson would let him back on the team, why would we even want him when I'm sure Huggins can get a near equal player without the baggage?

Like this guy:

I would give more credibility to your post if Smithson wasn't the coach! Who just returned from a self imposed leave of absense? I don't think I could respect that. Evans was sent to a place where Smithson was apparently already having problems. You know his critisism is like  the kettle calling the pot black? Add that to the fact that he MIS MANAGED Maurice Evans several years ago. IMO he couldn't stand the pressures at WSU so he sent Maurice Evans out as a Freshman and expected him to carry the team. The opposition had basicly one player to guard. Then he was critical of Maurice Evans when he couldn't get his 30.Maurice transfered to another college with more talent and did just fine. Oh, Both have the same last name! Imagine that. My only point here is I see problems and perhaps Tyree Evans isn't getting the best shake here. JMHO

I believe Huggins will look at that.   :woohoo: :woohoo:

This translates to Mr. Evans wasn't getting his 30. I think I might be a little discouraged and return late to. After all I was only getting 18.4 points a game. Can't someone else score so I don't have to shoot over 4 guys? JMHO :banghead: :banghead:

New update on Tyree.  According to his coach, he's not going to be playing for Butler for a while, but there is a possibility the coaches will let him rejoin the team later on in the year.

Don't think he ever makes it to K-state now.

Tyree's issues are not "legal".  What I'm really enjoying right now is how many gopowertards (and a few on this board) that are going to be upset when a press release is made in April.
