What would be some good sports bars to watch the bowl game?  I've only lived here a couple months and am still pretty unfamiliar with the area.  Your help would be greatly appreciated.

My advice:  Forget Wichita!  It takes less than 2 hours to drive to Manhattan from their, just hop in your car and head this way and enjoy the game with other Cats.  If you don't have friends here I'm sure you'll make them quickly and somebody will let you crash on their couch.

If you really can't go to Manhattan, I would recommend Oscar's Sports bar in Old Town.  Or if you live on the west side, Players is a good place to catch a game.  Then there is a Hooters out east and Buffalo Wild Wings all over but Players and Oscar's are good places.

You can't be racist and like basketball.
Oscar's is probably the best sports bar in the state.

East side:
Fox and the Hound near 13th and webb is a really classy place, but it's usually filled with rich snobs; but it has a fairly large projector screen and HD LCD panels surrounding each wall.  haven't checked to see if they have the game but I couldn't believe it if they didn't already have the NFL network.  I'd probably call and check before hand.

There's also the lame azz B.G. Boltons off 13th and greenwich, but they do have tons of TV's and I think they have little flat panel LCD's at each table.  They too have a large projection screen.  Beer's usually pretty cheap. I know for a fact that they'll have the game.  Pretty sure that I and about 4 other freinds will either be there or the aformentioned Oscars in Old town.

On N. Rock, just in front of the Northrock 16 cinema and Northrock bowling lanes, there's a Buffalo Wild wings; not sure if they have th game or not.

There's a Dive bar in andover called BoWinkles, cheap beer a couple of really old projector units, and LCD TV's at any booth table, but last time I was there, everyone was a ku fan.  I would call and check to see if they have the NFL network.

There's also an Old Chicago off of Kellogg and Rock, terrible place to watch the game as far as TV's go, but your choice of any beer you can think of.   Would also call to see if they have the NFL network.

Maybe I'll see you there, I'll be the guy wearing purple that is drunk if we're losing, or sober and screaming if we're winning.

Agree. Jezebel's is another excellent choice.

I'm not going to lie, wichita is pretty f-ing deluxe.
It is a tragedy because now, we have at least an extra month without Cat football until next year. I hate wasting my life away but I can hardly wait until next year.

No offense but I thought Wichita was pretty much a bevy of rednecks and gangsta's(z).
I've only been there twice - once for some riverfest and the second time for a wedding.
Odd town imo.

Cheesy Mustache QB might make an appearance.

New warning: Don't get in a fight with someone who doesn't even need to bother to buy ink.

I lived in that sh*thole in 92 and that was all it took for me to know that I'll never live there again.   Unless its changed considerably it shouldn't even be considered a city.  No music scene, restaurants suck, and unless you call going to sports bar culture, there is none.

Wichita isn't a bad place to live if you like gangs, Spangles, and non-revenue sports.

Wrong... It's filled with 35 year old virgin disk jockey’s that relate to high school kids by having panti-less Tuesday's broadcast across T95.1 FM like they're 13 year old band geeks trying to be in the cool crowd.  I realize that may sound cool to some of you guys, but it’s a very lame attempt at trying to recapture their youth, and it seems to exemplify the entire mindset of the average Wichitan.  I actually like the city okay... It's no Manhattan, But When I think of Wichita, I think of loser High school kids that didn't want to move away from their friends or the safety of their parents basement; so they went to Butler County Community College only to transfer to Wichita state to make horrible excuses of college careers out of drama club and College movies and theatre club - only to later refer to these things as Culture.  Outside of the newly renovated Old town and Warren theatres; it’s a complete stink hole.

Also, this new found "Wichita State" pride that everyone seems to just now be having kind of appeared out of no where... ohh say... March of last year?  85% of Wichita State fans don't know anything about the college or their athletics and only follow them because it's the "cool" thing to do.  I give all props possible to WSU basketball, but I'm not a fan and with the exception of 2 people I know that are hardcore WSU fans, the rest are bandwagon posers that only know the coaches name because local media talks about them constantly.  And when I blast these bandwagoners, they get all offended about it like I just called their mother a fat whore and deny the argument that the city of Wichita sustains the college and there are several thousand people that wouldn't have even known there was a college in Wichita before 2005.  Unlike places like Manhattan, or Lawrence where people automatically associate the college with the town.  KSU sustains Manhattan, and Wichita sustains WSU.  Manhattan will always be a better college town because of that one fact alone.

Hell no, that was an excellent rant.

I had a friend that bowled for Wichita State, Todd Zenner from Newton... anybody know him?

And to all of the bandwagoners I would ask:  Without looking it up tell me what positions Cliff Levingston and Xavier McDaniel played and what were their most famous professional teams?  Any "real" shocker fan can give me this information.

What's the matter?  Your Wichita State University degree only taught you how to understand Professor Ali Shiznobobwas broken English descriptions of how he discovered the American dream by floating over in an old Haleel pretzel crate.

Okay, I'll take it down to the 3rd grade reading level that you require.

<<A lot of people from Wichita are stupid and act like children.

A lot of WSU fans are stupid and only started to like their team because they got good.  If WSU was at .500 right now, I wouldn't hear about them ever again as a lot of their fans would no longer be fans.  >>

Keep in mind, I'm not calling you out as a bandwagoner, I'm sure you're a hard core WSU fan and I respect that.  But when a team that no one expected to do anything shows up in the sweet 16, and WSU merchandising explodes by nearly 400%, than there are a fair amount of bandwagon fans.

And that is different from every other school how? How many KSU football fans were there pre-90's? Get off your high horse dude.

400% increase in merchandising in 1 month isn't much of an exaggeration,  KSU has never experienced anything like that and there wasn't a single KSU fan I know that didn't approach the subject as, "Hey these guys don't look so crapty anymore."  It didn't go from no one to hero in less then 3 weeks.  Also, there were several thousands of people that were KSU fans before the 90's... we just didn't have any reason to cheer.  Can you imagine someone spending thousands of dollars and hours following a team that hadn't won a game in 25 consecutive tries.

What I'm saying is KSU alum have always been proud of KSU.  Not because of Football, basketball, baseball, or even the education they received from it.  We're proud to be associated with the university because we love it.  We became good in football, and it became an outlet for our pride.  Most WSU fans I know aren't proud of WSU; they're Proud to be associated with the flavor of the month.

If KSU athletics died tomorrow, I'd still wear purple, and I'd still consider Manhattan, KS the greatest place on earth.  I know several hundred people that feel the same way.  But I only know 2 people, and I've lived in Wichita a total of 22 years mind you.... TWO PEOPLE that would still have pride in WSU even if there were no basketball team.  That's pathetic.

But Like I said, if I knew you personally, you would be one of 3 people I know that actually takes pride in WSU.

And to illustrate my point, go up to any stranger wearing a WSU shirt or hat, or has a WSU license plate that doesn't look any older than a year, and ask them if they are also ku or KSU fans.  I guarantee 8 out of 10 of those people will say they are.  15 out of the 17 WSU fans I work with would agree.
