USF wasn't a quality win, ku beat them.

 I just think it is hilarious that this year, everytime a team has thought that they had a shot at the title, they choked away a game. See: Louisville with Rutgers, Texas with us, USC with UCLA, Rutgers with Cincinatti, Notre Dame with USC, Michigan with Ohio State, etc...

..And yeah, that's about all.  We lost to Baylor, Mizzou, Kansas, Nebraska.  We beat Oklahoma State(2nd to last in the south) Colorado(2nd to last in the north) Iowa State(last in the north) Marshall(crap team this year) two creampuffs(Illinois State and Florida Atlantic) and we had one(1) quality win against Texa$.

So as far as I'm concerned, we're not any better in terms of quality wins.

Rutgers has been overhyped all season and for what? A win over Lewisville?

We also weren't a win away from a BCS bowl, we also weren't America's favorite underdog all season, we also aren't ranked in the top 25.

Which team has progressed the most this season though?  Towards the end which do you think has been better towards the end?  If we can play against the Rutgers the way we played against Texas we'll be fine.  But we did have two trick plays in that game which is a little dissapointing.  But on the other side our defense didn't do much of anything to stop them.  I'm just hoping we progressed enough and Freeman is pissed off after that GayU game.

I agree.  I respect Rutgers and they have a solid team, but we aren't playing a team nearly as good as Texas.  I'll give credit where its due; Rutgers has a pro at running back, a solid offensive line, and a very good defense.  However, its not like it will take a flawless game to beat them, they are a very beatable team.

When you look at their schedule, they have the class 2 opening wins against horrible BCS schools in NC and Ill who combined for 5 wins (3 against 1A opponents).  They had a solid win vs Ohio (who MU beat 31-7) and the only teams they really blew out were a very bad Syracuse and decent Navy team.  And while their final game for the Orange Bowl was a triple OT thriller, keep in mind WVU was without their very good QB.  Granted, they probably wouldn't have lost to several of the teams that beat us (Baylor, ku) and beat the same Louisville team that handled us, but there is a reason the Big East #3 matches up against the Big 12 #8 in a bowl game.  The top of the Big East is solid and the Big 12 (north) is still finding itself, but the Big 12 is still a tougher league week in and week out than the Big East IMO.

Rutgers earned their ranking and they were a better team than us over the course of the season, but I like our chances with another month of practice and a healthier defense going into Houston.

I don't disagree with that.  I will only say that was a road game with a banged up team, but that's also an excuse so I'll leave it at that.

My main point is that its not like it will take some gargantuan effort by K-State to beat Rutgers.  This would be less of an upset than beating UT.  If we stay even in the TO margin this game will come down to late in the 4th quarter.  Rutgers will blow us out the same way ku did if we turn it over 6 times, but I'm not anticipating a repeat of that performance.

I'll add: this Rutgers team reminds me a lot of our 93-96 teams, especially the 93 or 94 team.  We beat some people we were supposed to pretty good, but certainly didn't roll everyone and had a loss to ISU similar to RU's Cinci loss.  We didn't get that breakthrough win like RU did over Louisville, but we got somewhat of a breakthrough win vs OU and for the most part competed pretty well with NU and CU, the other top dogs in the league.  The way things played out with RU going to the Texas Bowl is not a lot unlike our 94 trip to the Aloha Bowl. We played another team from a major conference who was having somewhat of a down year in BC (they were 6-4-1 going in) and we got beat.  The circumstances of how RU ended up there are different, and they have different components, but in plenty of ways this RU team reminds me of that team and to a lesser extent the 93, 95, and 96 teams.

The Big East today is very similar to the Big 8 in 93-94.

Yeah, the Texas bowl is in Jersey, hence the name. 
My point is that we're not playing in front of the home crowd at our home stadium that means it's a road game eh?
And by the way, Rutgers would take UT to the woodshed.  You're underestimating how good they are, look at where they rank both offensively and defensively.  Tell me how we're going to stop one of the nations strongest running attacks when we couldn't stop the Candian Cataclysm.

In one word, our run defense is...bad.
And take note that he won't be asked to beat us by himself.  Don't forget that Rutgers has the 7th best defense in the country, far better than any Big XII team.  Their defense alone could beat KSU, but when you add Rice into the mix you slide a huge advantage to them in this game.

I'm conceeding both lines of scrimmage to them and a much stronger running game.  They won't forget about the run like UT did, they haven't all year.

I think in the long run we both agree that Rutgers is a very good football team and it will take an upset to beat them.  We may disagree on how good they are and/or how "not good" we are, but that is about it.  I think we can win this game.
