Assume for a moment that this is true and ask yourself how it might have happened:
1) With the Gator Bowl out of play, the Insight determines that it's likely the lower tier Big XII bowls are going to have to choose from among a group consisting of KSU, Mizzou, TTech, Okie Lite, and the Squawks.
2) The Insight assumes that it's a slam dunk that the Sun Bowl will grab TTech, the regional team, to ensure a full stadium.
3) The Insight believes they're looking at a choice of KSU, Mizzou, Okie Lite, or the Squawks.
4) The Sun Bowl does the unthinkable and selects Mizzou and their non-travelling fan base on the assumption that spending the holidays in Ciudad Juárez del norte is preferable to spending them in Missouri. (They're right but that won't help their ticket sales like they believe it will).
5) Suddenly the Insight finds itself with the ability to select a team from about half as far from the Phoenix area as KSU and one whose fans tend to travel well (if you lived in Lubbock you'd jump at any chance to get out too).
6) The Independence Bowl is broadsided because they've already sent their invitation to Okie Lite.
7) KSU lands in the Texas Bowl.
Everyone send a thank you note to Kevin Weiberg, Big XII Commissioner and KSU alum for, once again, allowing KSU to be screwed in the bowl selection process. Seems like an annual tradition.
