Cons:
Its on the NFL Network (heard insight got moved to espn, so we're the only bowl not on national tv)
Same time as Holiday Bowl
Lowest Big 12 Bowl
Play Top 20 team opposed to a weak Big 11 team
Ray Rice

Pros
If we lose, we were supposed to, not many people notice, if we win, huge upset and great publicity
Chance to knock off top 20 team that was the media darling of CFB this year
Game is in heart of great recruiting area
Reliant Stadium is amazing
8-10 hr drive for most kansans, relatively close for a bowl game
New place we've never been to, hopefully great following
Rutgers is very disappointed about falling so far from near BCS, '98 Alamo bowl role reversal
Its a bowl game period

This definately isnt anyone's first pick, but it gives us a great chance to see how far our program has come this year. Rutgers is very comparable to Louisville, and we can see how we stack up once again. We win this, huge spring board into next season.

The Texas bowl is put on by the Houston Texans (through a sports promotions company they own) so I see little chance that this would get moved off the NFL network.

Playing a top 20 team is a pro not a con.
Not only is the game in a good recuriting area but NJ is also a good recruiting base so beating the home town team would help us out.

There's a new sheriff in town.
Playing Rutgers is much better than Iowa or Minnesota, IMO.
The game itself is a win/win for KSU.
The only downside I see is the NFL Network thingy.

Playing such a good team is a good and a bad thing IMO (hence putting it in pros and cons). BUT, the good outweighs the bad. Great opportunity for this young team. At the same time, a win in a bowl game does wonders. A win vs a top 20 team in a bowl game does even better wonders.

"8-10 hour drive for most KSU fans?"

What is your point of origination?  Houston is about 12 hours from KC.  Also, Southwest and Continental have a ton of flights between KC and Houston that are reasonably priced.

Anyway.......great point regarding recruiting.

Maybe a lil on the low side. From wichita its about 8.5-9 hrs, Manhattan, topeka prob 11 hrs. At the same time its beats a 20+ hr drive all the way to Tempe.
