Nebraska would have loved to play in that bowl in 2004..

Nope, we're on our way to the Cotton Bowl....not the Fiesta Bowl, but still a New Years Day Bowl.

Do you need directions to the Cotton Bowl?  When is the last time you played in that bowl?

BTW, thanks for showing a pulse tonight.

Sincerely,
Kevin Weiberg

It's been awhile, and I've heard it's a dump, but nice to be back playing on New Years Day. Sounds like we might get matched up with Arkansas, which would be interesting.

Arkansas will be a good matchup.   The SEC is overrated, so NU should do well.

I hope so....they seem like more of a running team, and our run defense was good tonight. Our pass defense is what needs the work, and our offense generally....too many damn turnovers.

If you guys do get Minnesota, that's a good matchup for you guys too...other than the top couple teams, the Big 10 is kind of a joke....you guys should be able to take them down.

NU's run defense is top-notch.  All of those seniors will be tough to replace.  How will you guys handle UArks' offense when they put a WR at QB and run all of that crazy shiz-nit?  Seems like you guys have some holes in your secondary.

Norm-

True enough, the secondary is a weakness. If you've followed NU this season, you probably noticed that #2, Grixby is about 5'7" and overmatched every time he takes the field. If you saw the game tonight, you saw him get burned for two TDs and numerous big plays. They beat him like a drum. The other corner Jones has more potential, but has been slow to play well. The safeties have ther moments, but have difficulty covering and tackling.

We lost Zach Bowman in the preseason, which just killed us back there. He has first round NFL potential and is a true shutdown corner. The other major issue is that our secondary coach teaches the players not to turn and play the ball. So we have CBs getting hit in the back of the head by passes they should be intercepting. Just a retarded way to coach technique. Especially when Grixby, while short, has like a 40" vertical, and if he turned and played the ball aggressively could at least force some turnovers. Our defense is solid, but does a poor job of forcing turnovers.

So we probably need a new secondary coach, and definitely need some offseason work to shore up that part of the defense.

16 Losses in Slashahans first 3 years at the helm, and eyelash away from 17, and given what I saw last night, I'll predict 17 losses for Slashahan after the bowl game is over.

It's really pretty sad how weak the Big 12 North is to let a team like Cornhole State win the North.

Nebraska played badly last night, and still kept it close. With five turnovers and a terribly overmatched CB, we still only lost by 14....we had more total yards, first downs, and led in multiple offensive categories, despite having a terrible game on offense.

So take away those turnovers and get a competent CB in there and we probably win...tough loss, but we're continuing to improve and not that far from winning the game.
