I had originally hoped that the driver didn't get any charges pressed against him, but that was before knowing that he was on restricted license with multiple DUIs.  Now I don't really care if they throw the book at him.

Why is it possible for someone to get 3 DUI's.  In some countries you lose your liscense for life after 1.

I'd bet it never rolls under those colors again, at the least.

As for the 3 DUI dude, lets not get too uppity, I'd guess that he was driving because he was the only one not drinking.  He otherwise will pay for his past mistakes, but I truly doubt that he was in any manner to blame for what happened.

I don't know the particulars, or if they are even out yet, but it might well depend on the timeline of when they were received.  If it was over a 20 year period who knows if he was legally behind the wheel.  A restricted license can be given for many reasons, not necessarily does his come from the DUIs.

There are probably several people you could blame for this incident.  The owner for not putting some sort of lock on rear door while it is in motion; The driver for not making sure no one was on top of the vehicle while in motion; the 6 other people on top of the bus that didn't yell duck; But ultimately the real fault lies in the 8 people that made the decision to ride on top of a bus going 40 mph down a busy street.   I personally don't feel the driver nor the owner should shoulder any blame for the incident.  Sure they could have stepped up and said they weren't moving until everyone was inside, but people are going to make their own decisions in life.  

You could compare this to the seatbelt laws in Kansas - If your front passenger isn't wearing a seatbelt, THEY get the ticket... correct?

the above linked article says he received his DUI's in 1994, 1996 and in 2000.

It seems like a non issue in my mind.  A person with a clear liscense still would have had people riding on top of the bus.  A nun could have been driving and this still would have happened if people had made the decision to ride up there.  If he get's charged with anything, it should be held seperately from this incidental death issue. Fine for driving under a restricted license or whatever.

i know his daughter, she was pretty tight.  they won a lawsuit worth a couple million dollars.  her mom told her the good news by calling her at school and saying "how does it feel to not have to worry about money ever again"

Not only did he not have a commercial license, he wasn't supposed to be driving a vehicle not equipped with a device that gives him a breathalyzer before allowing the engine to start.

He totally &@#%ed up....not necessarily "his fault", but he was a freaking idiot to be driving at all and probably deserves a lot of whatever crap is heading his way.

driver and passenger get a ticket, im assuming both are of age to be driving.  I think an unlicensed 6 year old without a belt gets a pass, little bitches.

That was the penalty that the last person I knew of that got caught driving illegally on a restricted licence when he had three previous DUIs and that is why he had a restricted license.

Hey dipsh*t, have you ever seen what a fatality on the other end of a drunk driving accident looks like?  I watched a drunk slam into the back of a car wrapping the innocent driver around a steel pole while his pregnant wife watched from another vehicle.  I was the first person to get to the mangled car and I will never forget what that driver looked like nor will I forget his wife screaming as the car caught on fire. 

30 days... f*ck that, if you take a life because you're drunk and you kill somebody I say its at least 10 years with community service and parole for life.

If you're wondering the guy that was hit by the drunk driver ended up dying and his wife, child, and yet-to-be-born baby were left husband and fatherless.

Was there also someone who was killed as a result?  The driver might not be totally resposible for that persons death, but he has not and will not learn his lesson if he recieves yet another slap on the wrist.  Thirty days? you can't actually think thats all he deserves.

You can get infinite DUI's granted you can stay out of prison somehow. A guy that was selling a house that a client of mine wrote an offer on was in prison with 8 or 9. You can get your license suspended and still get behind the wheel. Then it's driving on a suspended license AND DUI.

I may be wrong but I haven't seen anywhere that the driver of the bus was drunk.  I think the 30-day comment was what waks thinks should be the punishment for this particular offence.
