Did NU just decline all their bowl invitiations in Slash's first year?  I would think that would've been the case because I looked in NU's record books and saw there wasn't a bowl game that year.   Slash is such a genius that his team would have been bowl eligible in his first year so I'm assuming NU just declined every single bowl invitation.  I mean, Slash did coach in a Super Bowl, and no matter the difficulty in transforming a run oriented team into a passing team, someone of Slash's coaching ability would have no problem taking a 10-3 football team and making a bowl game his first season.

Braying about Callahan's opening season a few years back won't distract from the fact that K-Lite is not even relevant.

While we're making a run at a BCS berth and playing in the Fiesta Bowl, you're busy booking tickets to Detroit for a game that no one care about or watches. At worst we'll probably be in the Cotton Bowl. At worst, the bowl commissioners will realize they don;t want a bunch of purple-clad trailer people in their city and not invite K-Lite to any bowl.

In the meantime, keep worrying about what Callahan did years ago. That doesn't change the fact that we came down to Manhattan and punked you this year.

Actually that would be an utter disaster and the NFL knows it.  What they want to do is broadcast just enough games in the clear to keep the fans interested while putting the majority on PPV so you can contribute the the salaries of their massively overpaid players.

Every week of every college football season is exciting....wouldn't be that way with playoff football....playoffs create boring football......do just enough to stay in

if the playoffs only select 8 teams that would have been in the BCS the regular season stays exciting.  let the top 8 teams play over a 3 week stretch for a real national champ.  they are already starting to spread out the BCS games anyways.

I wasn't talkin' hoops...but since you bring it up....there is a winner of a 64 team tourney they call the National Champion, but not the 64 best teams....and because of upsets they might not have to play the toughest road to win it all.  

The context was we get a "real national champ."  It's a myth.  We get a winner of a late season tournament that may not be the best team as played out through the season....It'll never really be known.  There are many factors in a playoff that don't resolve the question either...other than it just easier to tell ourselves it solves everything.

Many of us have convinced ourselves the tournament format is the best and only way to go while we casually throw out an exciting and positive system.

You're talking about $200 million in payouts plus another $150 million in TV revenues, sponsorships, etc.. each year.   That's a lot of money to play for.  Can a playoff make that same amount of money?

I honestly believe that bowl money would be nothing when compared to what a playoff could generate....minimum 16 teams is what I want....if not 24.

D-2 uses a 24 team format, and it's awesome.

all they have to do is keep the selection criteria the exact same as for a bcs bowl game and have an 8 team field.  they could hold the games at the respective bowls with different bowls getting different rounds and rotate like they do the national championship game now.  i see no reason why this wouldnt work.

at least we dont end up with a split national title or an undefeated team not having a chance to even play for it.  also this way we dont have to debate over all the 1 loss teams but can let them play it out on the field.  sure with such a small field someone will still get screwed over but that happens in basketball every year too.
