just take a look at who landed McCay, Grissom, Bell, Bird and Musil.  Need a 'cruiter and those dudes would look good in purple.

Simply put, we need someone who can recruit and who can coach. Patterson could fit the bill, but we've got to start changing with the times. Getting all 3 star JUCO guys is gonna leave you in the Big 12 cellar.  :pirate_grrr:

linked Venzy to Bell, McCay and Grissom, maybe "rivals" or someone else has better up to date insidery type info than Venzy meeting with all three last week, and last I checked none of the three had signed, so i'll roll with that.  Dude is recruiting Kansas better than the current ku and KSU staffs combined.

GPatt looked like a JV coach against Peterson, no doubt he can coach D but his O is nothing special, and frankly he is getting way too much cred for beating OU 5 years ago IMHO.

G-Pat... at least dude has a track record as HC. I don't want anymore fcking experiments; Venzy could be good at HC, but I kinda want a guy with success, not the 2nd coming of Ron Prince.

Venzy is not at all comparable with RP.

Prince had no credentials at a very mediocre ACC school

Yes, but Venzy has the exact same amount of HC exp as asshatronprince did when he got here. FWIW, I wasn't comparing the two guys' accomplishments or skills - I was just noting that we need a coach with HC success.

When you sober up, I want you to revisit this exact post.  Holy crap, BMW is a better poser than you.

could've had the job, chose not to take it. Move on.

KSU isn't going to hire a home run candidate with extensive head coaching experience, unless it is somebody comparable to Tuberville (which I would've been ecstatic about), maybe Leavitt? And KSU shouldn't make a poor "reach" like our neighbors to the east.  I don't care what Venzy did, he should be the man.  Frankly, we have plenty of old guys who can coach, I wouldn't mind seeing the head man be a 'cruiter.

I love Bill Snyder, but he seems tired and is sounding old when he talks.  I'd want, in this order:
1.  Mike Leach
2.  Jim Leavitt
3.  Brent Venables

BV's sins at KSU should be forgiven, and we all move on if he would be our best alternative.  What's our chances of getting one of these three?

Leach: 0%
Leavitt: 35% (that is, unless he is hired on at a place like OU, which is the current rumor, then likely 5% or less)
Venables: 100% if he were offered the job, but since JV doesn't like BV, he will never be offered the job, however, now that JV's brother in law effed the AD up, he may have to loosen his control, so how about 40%?

Recruiting is the name of the game....simple as that. Patterson would be nice, but we're not in the Mountain West or the WAC or anything else. This is the Big 12, and if your coach can't recruit across the board D1 talent, you are gonna be in a position of 1 bowl game in 6 years...simple as that.

Recruiting the most important aspect of college football. If you're not on probation, you're not trying. :pirate_grrr:

Well all I'm saying is if you guys want Venables as the next head coach you better act fast.  He has already turned down several jobs, including the recent ECU opening.  Came very close to going to Clemson which is probably a better opportunity than Kansas State and all things considered he could get a job like that very soon.  I'm not saying he's above KSU or anything but he is a good interviewer and someone will take him soon.  He will be a great head coach.

Why would Venables take a job that he accepted once before, only to change his mind and leave his old head coach hanging (transition in place, would clean out staff with Venables guys, turn over reins in two years) at the last minute so the old coach pulls the plugs and unexpectedly announces his retirement?

Seriously.  If you can explain how this works out in light of the past (that is confirmed by uber insidery info of the utmost level), then I'll give it a shot.  Otherwise, my guess is the closest you see Venables to coaching at KSU is in your dreams while you touch yourself.

I like the names mentioned but I'm not sure if we'll get to land Leach or Leavitt.  I liked Venables before Prince but we've all heard the rumors.  Peterson would be great, but I'm not sure if we'll ever have another chance with him.  The one name I'm surprised that doesn't seem to come up often is Peterson of Boise.  He continually wins games with average recruits.  Lets be honest we're probably never going to be able to annually land top 25 recruiting classes.  So I think bringing in a coach that has the ability to get the most out of the players they get is important.  It is what made this program early in the Snyder era.

On the recruiting class, no it wasn't a top 25 but the transfers that came in and the number of players returning should make for an exciting season.  You can't deny Snyds ability to coach up players and improve the team.   :steadymobbin':

has the best job in the country.  Nobody expects anything from Boise State, yet they are the best program in a very weak league.  He has a great situation, don't expect him to ever leave.

Also, consider the last few coaches who have left BSU after being successful and sought after: Dan Hawkins is in over his head at CU, Dirk Koetter was fired at ASU and the best job the "Preacher" can get is Ole Miss.  Peterson knows he is better off sticking in Boise until an ideal job (UCLA? NFL?) pops.
