On Tuesday Afternoon's "Murph and Andy" on 1460 KXNO in Des Moines, Keith Murphy and Andy Fales suggested that a larger school (or more of a 'big name' school) may be interested in Frank Martin's services at the end of this season. Frank has taken what Bob Huggins left him, and developed a successful program at Kansas State, capped by wins over Kansas in 2008, and Texas in 2010. With his success in a place hard to bring top talent, it is quite possible that a 'powerhouse school' or a school with a larger budget could lure Frank Martin away from Manhattan.

Several commentators on ESPN yesterday made the point that KSU basketball should be no surprise because we do have a history as a big name school. The problem, if there is one, is getting coach paid like a big time coach. I have no idea where the idea that it is hard to bring in big time talent came from. We seem to be doing just fine. Our attendance and crowd are big time too.
It will all come down to money.   :skillz:

We do have a basketball tradition, though it's not ku, Duke, or Kentucky level tradition.  It will definitely all come down to money.  If recruits see the type of atmosphere on the television like Monday night, they wwill be pretty damn excited.

It is not NEAR as difficult to gets good recruits for basketball as it is for football.  I don't think recruiting is a factor for us, especially since basketball recruits go to play for a coach as opposed to the school.

Listen, if I know Murph and Andy on 1460 KXNO in Des Moines (and I do) then I know one thing:  They read, and frankly worship, ksufans.com and all of our posters especially steve dave.

Something to consider.

Pre-read warning....don't read this as a fact that we should not reward Martin...we should.

Martin is clearly going to be courted, there's no doubt.  However, as many have noted here, KSU has something incredibly special.  The fans identify with this guy and he identifies with this university.  I believe Martin is incredibly grateful for the opportunity he's been given.  He will see big $'s put in front of him and it may be at supposedly "bigger name" programs.

I don't get the impression it's about money.  He has something special at this place and it's about respect.  If he gets respect he will be here, it is a connection and it's the right connection.  Martin will be successful no matter what, I believe that, but you're never going to overcome that special mutual admiration that Martin has provided to the fans and the fans provided for the job he's in the aftermath of Huggins skulking departure.

Beat me 2 it...Frank bringing in AA jet service solved a lot of the recruiting issues.  Now we're ahead of those other programs that have to drive > 45min to get cruits to/from airport.

As for fans, why would he want to leave the best fans in college bball?

All that is remaining is a new facility...oh wait, there are dozers heading toward the Gon now...

+1..and to all the jealous ISU people....

its not about geography. So lets just cut the bullcrap.

We got Beasley to come here and he didn't know where Manhattan was. What does that tell you?

People, people, people. You've got to have a level head about the whole situation, here. We love Frank and the job he's doing! Frank says he loves the university - as well he should. K-State gave him a shot when quite likely NO OTHER school would have. In terms of marketability, the guy's got three years experience (at the D1 level). That's it.

He's doing GREAT! We love him! He loves us! If he gets us where we think we're going, he NEEDS to be rewarded. But let's not get the cart before the horse here. No other school is going to sweep in here and seduce him. Should they try, I'd imagine his attitude would be, "Where were you when K-State was giving me the chance to coach D1 b-ball? I've got a contract now, that I was thrilled to get when I got it. If we continue to do well, I'm confident I'll be compensated accordingly. I've got no interest in what you've got to say. My family and I love it here in Manhattan. I've no interest in moving them all around the country from job to job."

Don't get me wrong. He's going to be a hot commodity, but only when he's "done it." After the season ends, if ADJC doesn't have a nice package ready to renegotiate, he's a fool. But JM's got everybody foaming after the UT win. At this point in January, it's just another win. Will you be this hot to trot if we drop more than half the remainder of our games and are out of the tournament after our first game?
