Some people test poorly, maybe the recruit took lots of shop classes and welding...
I had straight A's and I think I only got 22 or 24 on my ACT (however I did better on the SAT).

Isn't 18 what you need to qualify?  Maybe he got a lot higher but the question was "Have you scored at least an 18 on the ACT?"

It means alot. Correlation between HS GPA and College GPA is pretty good.

The requirement is 21 for KSU, unless you are in the top 1/3 of your class or took a specified curriculum. I don't think that his grades really matter as a recruit as much as your making it out to be. However, it does say that he works hard in comparison to his academic ability. I'm fine with hard work.

HS GPA is all about Desire.  ACT is a decent indicator, but not everyone is good at taking standardized tests for that matter.  But people of avg, intelligence shouldn't have a hard time scoring a 17 on it.

if you can get a high test score, you likely don't have to work hard in hs to get a high gpa.

innate intelligence is what gets you by on standardized tests.

doing homework, paying attention in class and kissing the teachers ass....which any moron can do....gets you good grades.

Doing well in class, paying attention etc.. helps on standarized tests. The ACT is a predictor of how well you'll do in college.

Honestly, people don't just show up and do well on standardized tests. Only an idiot actually believes that.

my best friend in hs studied his butt off, pulled a 3.2 and only scored a 17.  he went to ku.

i slacked my butt off and still hit 30, without any pre-study.

some folks have intelligence, others can memorize crap.  that's the difference.

My point is take a group of 40 people with 4.0's in high school and take a groupd of 40 people w/3.0's.


The group of people with 4.0's will average **considerably** higher scores on their ACT's.

Oh, and I have never studied ever in my life and got a 36 on my ACT and am now pulling a 4.0 in college. Never ever studied.

The College GPA, however, can haunt you for life.

I agree, I'm not saying HS GPA is important...but it's a good indicator of how well you'll do in college and on your ACT imo.

I tend to agree...that's why the 4-point and the 18 threw me off...

If you've taken the core classes and done well, there's no reason you shouldn't do well on the ACT...unless you mis-bubbled or something (Is it electronic yet?  I'm old).

Maybe only about 5 minutes after you get that first job....at my last job interview, with over 15 years experience, I got the question....I actually laughed out loud and said, "I don't know I haven't looked at it in years...I think it was like a 2.1 or something....but I'd have to look at the transcript."  Still got the job.

I'm less interested in the correlation between HS GPA and college GPA than I am interested in the correlation between college GPA and not sucking at your job.  I don't think it's as strong a correlation.

College GPA won't hold you back for all jobs but at large corperations it can.  Deloitte and Touche wouldn't look at an application unless you graduated with a 3.75 or higher 6 years ago.  Have no idea if that's changed.

I'm speaking more to graduate school, etc...than job applications..

But even then, the type of degree can severely hold you back...which is kinda funny in and of itself.
