Enough is enough or the best is yet to come?  Wayne/Kanye used the living f^ck out of it and made absolute magic.  Now, honestly, people are annoying the hell out of me off with it.  I wonder if this happened after Peter Frampton made his guitar talk?  Would like some michigancat input on this......

I think you are holding the "artists" that use this stuff in too high of esteem.

Are you saying Wayne isn't an artist?  Actually had this argument with mrs. dave about 2 hours ago.

Meh, you'll have to ask SuperG or Russ about the fancy stuff, but mostly I think people who play instruments are "artists,", and the rest are "entertainers."

Most menacing rock skip in music video history, for sure.  Although not auto-tune, it is talk box related - a la Frampton.

This is my fave featuring warehouse and people in chairs.

I think it depends on the role they play in making the music.  If they help make the music or arrange it or even write it they can be artists.  If they are just singing words others have written to music others have made, they are performers.  Just imho :dunno:

Couldn't agree more actually. People who play instruments are the real talent. People who don't just put on a show with their personalities. See Michael Jackson.

You can't be racist and like basketball.
A couple thoughts:

1)  I still think the best of Autotune is yet to come, but you can't just do it half-assed and get away with it any more.  So, maybe from now on you won't here autotune on every song on the pop charts, but it will be used well when it makes it there.

2)  As far as you jackasses who think that people who don't "play instruments" aren't talented, you can GTFOOMF.  You mean to tell me Michael Jackson wasn't talented?    Personality/dance moves isn't a talent?  You think Michael Jackson was just born moonwalking the f*ck out of people and making bitches faint, or do you think it took some work? You think Aretha Franklin's voice isn't an instrument?  You think she isn't talented because she isn't strumming some stupid guitar?  Eat a bag of dicks if you think Aretha Franklin isn't talented.  Eat a large bag of large dicks.

3)  Actually saw Chromeo at Bonnaroo.  You should go, SD.

Sad how little talent you have to have (in some cases absolutely none) to make it "big" anymore.

Just have and act and auto-tune . . . your set.

I wouldn't mind $hit like auto tune so much if I knew the person using it could actually sing and they were just using it for some type of effect or a different feel in some songs.

OK, we can all laugh at KSU Super Fan T-Pain.  But, most people who have utilized it already had very successful careers pre-autotune (Waye/Kanye being the two most discussed in this thread)

My only beef (?) with auto-tune is when people use it to try and cover up the fact that they have no abilities.  Otherwise, it's all game.

I don't know if this has anything to do with auto-tune/etc., but i'm pretty glad that you don't hear much out of "Moby" anymore.

Some of you need to do a better job of being snobby.  I'll help.

Entertainers known primarily for "putting on a show" (like Kanye or KISS) are like blockbuster action movies.  They lack substance and are intended for the mindless and easily amused.  Similarly, auto-tune is like the latest special effect used in blockbuster action movies.  It can make some cool sounds, but it's not like it does anything worthwhile beyond that.

Auto-tune is a tool, just like a synthesizer, it takes art and skill to use it well.

No one says, "Hey, let's go see Kanye.  He used to be a really good producer."  Which do you prefer:  his rapping or his singing?
