Your student fees are like 3 times more than KSU's?  Sucks to be a uk student.

*edit-  Also, how is it that uk can subsidize their AD with almost 2 mil and KSU doesn't?  Seems like that 2 mil would come from state funds, so both schools would receive the funding...

Well Ben, first off those numbers are old.  

ku reported gross revenues of $70.6 million to the Department of Education for FY 2009, and net revenues of $4.76 million.

I also believe the sale of K-State licensed apparel almost exclusively goes into the general scholarship fund of the university.  I've even heard that was a major point of contention between the Foundation and Bob Krause.   I'll have to look but I thought the Nike not only included all uniforms and a lot of equipment, but I thought it included an annual cash payment as well.

Look at Baylor, they spent more on building athletic facilities this last year than they made in athletic revenue, yet they used all private money to build those new facilities.  So clearly they aren't reporting that capital fund raising on their athletic department financial statements.

They just opened 2 new facilities that combined cost $45 million dollars.

I don't know how to find the relevant info, but the stadium expansion issue at ku raises the question of how the schools are doing, on a comparitive basis, on bonded indebtedness.  That expansion appears to convey that ku is willing to encumber itself and the university for money for athletic dept purposes.  I don't know if K-State does the same thing, or not.

I love the original post, an in-your-face "we have more money than you do" post.  That sure paid off on Nov 7, 2009, now didn't it?

While I'm at it, the financial info actually UNDERSTATES total athletic dept revenue.  A complete reporting would also show the hundredes of thousands of dollars of payments to athletes by boosters (Doug Compton, anyone?).  This sh1t will catch up with our parochial hick cousins to the east, bank on it.

Minn raised $86 million dollars in private money over a 4 or 5 year period for their new stadium, even if you back out sponsorship agreements paid over time it's still over $50 million dollars in private money, including gifts of $6 and $10 million dollars.  Yet, they always show $5 or $6 million dollars in donations to the athletic department.

The $25 or $30 million dollars that MU got for their new arena, and another $10 million dollar gift they got from a KC based alumni group was never shown in their athletic department revenues.

Don't know if the basketball deal will last more than 10 more years for ku.  Big football schools (Texas, Ohio State, etc.) are focusing much more on basketball to build their revenue picture, and will commit more resources to winning.  ku will have a hard time competing, and will lose their dominance.  All the recruiting talk of what a cultural mecca Lawrence is (they seriously do that), the "history" of Allen Fieldhouse and the ku program will evaporate faster than piss in a desert within the decade.  You heard it here first.

What year is this information from, was this a year where ku had 8 home games?  That would be the only way to explain these ticket revenue numbers, and even if it was 8 home games as opposed to 6 or 7 for the other teams I am still not sure I buy the math.
