1) do what gosp said to do if possible.

2) if it is not possible then do what sd said. make sure that your white shirt does not have buttons to hold the collar down. george brett made this mistake once and has never lived it down.

No offense to slucat (who is a girl   ) but if any of my friends ever wear a tie without a jacket they are going to get a serious dressing down by sd.
