Weird thread name, but it really is an amazing movie.  Visuals are breath-taking, and it's got stuff for everyone:  action, romance, and explosions.  And blue nipples.

But if you don't see it in 3d, you're missing out.

Could of ended the movie without the last hour and I think it would of been a lot better.

WARNING:  THIS MOVIE CONTAINS AN ABUNDANCE OF CLICHES.

Evil corporation with U.S. military as muscle plots the raping of an exotic planet.  Said planet inhabited by peace loving creatures living in harmony.  A few scientists join with peace loving creatures to fight the evil corporation and military.  Epic battle ensues.......................that's when I had to leave for a previous engagement.

Hoakie, tired, story line.  Only redeeming aspect of the whole flick were the visuals.

Newsflash, dorkstores.  EVERY angle of a movie storyline has been done already.  Nothing has been/will be original.

I bet you guys go to funerals and are all like "Eh, heard this speech before.  Nice guy, great family man, yada yada"

I don't go to funerals to be entertained.

I'm not trying to convince anyone that they should like Avatar, it's whatever....but I get irritated when people claim a movie is unoriginal.

Name ONE (1) movie that you saw this year that was original and hadn't been done 100 times before.

To be clear, I'm not saying that it has to be 100 percent original but I'd like for the movie to be fresh by introducing something different or perhaps not have a 'hollywood ending' all the time.

Some recent movies that are/were pretty original at their time.

Truman Show
Juno
Little Miss Sunshine
No Country for Old Men
Matrix
Shrek
District 9

Bottom line --  When I see the trailer, I should not be able to tell you how it ends already.

I don't think Avatar being unoriginal is a claim, more like fact.

What was that metal called??.......unfindium??.....seldomseensium??

The cold corporate hack, over-the-top Major Jarhead........wtf???

I payed hard earned money to be entertained, thank God for the trailers.

Now I'm REALLY angry. :curse:  :curse:

Truman Show  Never actually saw this, so I don't know what it's about.
Juno  Coming of age teen drama.  There was a decade devoted to these.
Little Miss Sunshine  Never saw it...?
No Country for Old Men  Loner serial killer travels around killing people.  Yawn.
Matrix  Guy in a computer program.....LAWNMOWER MAN
Shrek  Animated buddy movie...about a million or so.
District 9  Aliens stranded on Earth.  E.T.?

Bottom line --  When I see the trailer, I should not be able to tell you how it ends already.

I'm pretty much just arguing to waste time, it's a really slow day at my office.

I understand that you can try and fit all of these movies into what ever genre/copycat that you wish.  However,  I will argue that all of these movies brought different 'angles' if you will.

District 9 is much more than any generic alien movie.  How many other alien films out there have aliens trapped and living in something comparable to india? or perhaps the Japanese collection during WWII?  I'll admit the very end was pretty obvious which was my big knock on district 9, but getting there was very unique movie in regards to the story arc.

Shrek was a 'buddy movie' I guess, but what made it different is that story, which is my point.  The story is a bunch of fairy tales that are combined into one (or several movies if you see that way).

Matrix shouldn't even be a question here.  They brought you 'bullet time' and used humans as batteries. He also jumps into another man's body and destroys his 'code'...what other movies do this?

Avatar is a straight up war movie where the good side always wins and they are always outnumbered until the last second where something/someone comes from no where to take out all the bad guys.  I can't tell you how many movies do this but here a few...

LOTR, Star Wars, Braveheart, etc.

All I'm asking is that we get away from the same generic crap.  I'm not asking to reinvent every movie out there.

Just went to see this today.

The primary plot line is exactly like Dances With Wolves.

However, despite that, it was probably the most remarkable movie experience I have ever encountered.  I saw it at the Imax with 3-D and it was amazing.
