Los Angeles (Calif.) Harbor quarterback Dominique Blackman is keeping all of his options on the table...

While college coaches thought during the spring that Los Angeles Harbor (Calif.) College quarterback Dominique Blackman was headed to Washington, Blackman knew that door was shut, and was destined to prove something his first year playing at Harbor.

Blackman didn’t get through the NCAA Clearinghouse after signing with the Huskies in 2008, and then when Tyrone Willingham, the coach who recruited him, was let go, and Steve Sarkisian was hired, Blackman and Washington mutually parted ways.

“A lot of coaches that came by during the spring thought I was just working out with Harbor and was going to Washington,” said Blackman. “They didn’t realize that I was going to still be at Harbor. So I just had an early offer from Iowa State but they got another quarterback. Now, things are starting to pick up for me.”

Blackman was offered by Old Dominion and took a visit there this weekend. Arkansas State has also offered him and schools like North Carolina and Kentucky are also showing serious interest.

A slew of FCS schools have offered him as well like Morehouse, Howard, Alabama State and SE Missouri. But his aim is bigger.

“Right now, I’m fully qualified so I can leave here in December and be a 4-for-3 guy (four years to play his three seasons),” said Blackman. “I’m taking a look at all of these schools, but if the right school doesn’t offer, I’ll maybe come back here and play another year. But as of right now, I don’t want to play JC ball anymore. I’m ready to go. If I have to wait until after the spring to sign, I will have no problem with that.”

Because he was a class short of qualifying, which he ultimately completed last year, with plans to enroll in January of 2009 at Washington, Blackman doesn’t need to complete his A.A.

“Schools don’t look at JC QBs that much, but the four-for-three guys are more appealing. A lot of the schools I’m talking to said they won’t know their situation until spring, so that’s why I’m willing to wait. They’ll be back around in the spring, after their spring ball is done, so they’ll know who they signed, who’s transferring out, who’s hurt. I’m just staying patient,” said Blackman.

Blackman physically had all the tools as a prep, going 6-4, 228. While at Carson, he was under center exclusively, but while at Harbor, he’s been coming out of the shotgun, which he’s said has helped refine his quarterback skills.

“I had a really good year,” said Blackman. “I was coming out of the gun more so that helped me a lot. I threw for 3,711 yards and 35 touchdowns and only threw nine picks. I also rushed for 378 yards and six touchdowns. So I was getting it done with my arm and legs.”

Blackman said he has no favorite, but is seriously interested in several schools.

“Colorado is coming to see some of my film and there is still a possibility for an offer from North Carolina and Kentucky. Arkansas State and Old Dominion have both offered so I’m interested in them both. And I’m still hoping for UCLA, I just have to see what their situation is,” said Blackman.

That's like a 3 hour flight, and what with the airports and security stuff these days?  Sounds like way more trouble than it's worth for our recruiters.  Let stupid Colorado coaches go through all that crap.  Non-story as far as I'm concerned.  We are deep at QB.

No kidding.  Even with the direct flights out of Manhattan it is the Holidays and all.  No need to keep the coaches from their fam.  Who would want a 4 for 3 dual threat qb anyway?

    Gettin' angried up!!!
Old Dominion, Ark State, Morehouse, Howard, Alabama State and SE Missouri. I'm guessing the kid isn't very good with an offer list like that.  If he was playing any other position, wouldn't we be pissed if we offered a kid with an offer list like that?

    Hi Brett
I agree with JTKSU.  That offer list isn't impressive at all and if this kid didn't play qb there would be no interest at all.  Is this Lamur kid I keep hearing about for real?

Yeah, I saw him on the sideline this year.
