Since Coach Mangino got fire..... umm, resigned, I have gone into radio silence.  I already knew which coach I wanted to have at ku so I was just going to sit back and see how it played out.  I did not want JH, he is just as volatile as Mangino and to me this hire would show that Lew was really on a witch hunt.  I was ok with Sumlin, but not ok at all with Holtz, Edsall, or Jones.  I wanted Turner Gill and it looks like my wish is coming true.  I have personally talked with Gill when he was an assistant at nub.  The guy is amazing to talk to and very inspiring.  I am not a ku fan with my head in the clouds.  I don't want a coach that is just looking to use us.  I believe Gill wants to coach at ku.  I believe he will make us better.   :pirate_grrr:

According to ku police reports, the fight involved as many as 100 people.
“We’re pretty sure an incident occurred,” said Capt. Schuyler Bailey, ku Public Safety Officer
“We will handle any discipline regarding this incident internally, and we will have no further comment about it.” Perkins

I still want to see repeats of this headline: "Student Excited Dad Gets Head Job."  That is, of course, if it turns out to be true.

Congrats on getting your man.  He sucks as a coach, but at least you have that.

Agreed on good hire.  The ku football program was nationally known as being filthy and loaded with violatons under MM.  I appreciate that ku is trying to clean at least one of their programs up.  It makes the conference and state look better.

Thanks Lew.   Someone had to say "enough" at some point.

Why do you think he sucks as a coach?  What he has done in Buffalo is exactly the way Snyder started his first gig at HC.  give him a chance.  or are you that scared? :piratewave:

didn't say he was the next snyder, i'm saying give him a chance.  What he has done for Buffalo in four years is something they had never seen at the D1 level.  He had 4 players drafted, that is 30% of all Buffalo players EVER drafted.  He took them to their first Bowl Game at the D1 level and let's not forget how he ruined Ball States season in 2008.  When is the last time ku beat a team that they had no chance against?  OU in 1994?

not sure i get the logic behind bragging about your new coach beating a team that his team had no chance against. that would seem to infer that he had a bad team. congrats on "getting your guy" though. hopefully he can coach some bad jayhawk teams that beat a team they shouldn't at some point in time for you.

As Josh Freeman has demonstrated, talented players can get drafted from terrible teams with terrible coaches.

Gill turned a bad team into a mediocre team in 4 years.  I'm sure he can do the same at ku.

And Pelini sounds like he is either brain damaged or drunk (both) but he won the North.

Not sure on the D. but they run a power spread.  their running back with 3000 yards in 3 years was injured before this season started.  They then had a ton of injuries that really depleted them.  Two future nfl prospects missed quite a bit of time this year off his team.  I think he will take a mediocre ku team and make us competitive.

i think gill has some upside.  i'm not on board with everyone trashing the move.  it only looks bad b/c of how it was handled by lew in that it was clear this wasn't a 1st choice.  lew shoulda known what his school is in football and just made this move immediately.  now he has a fanbase that is disapointed and in a wait and see mode.

In the least, ukans hired a guy that will be harder to root against.

fair enough

seriously though, mangino was a fat cheating slimeball and easy fodder.  gill at least seems like an ok guy.  i'll certainly never root for ku or him to have success.  i just won't hate him personally.
