Gill also interviewed for the head coaching position at Auburn University, losing out to Iowa State head coach Gene Chizik, who had a 5-19 record. On December 15, former NBA superstar and Auburn player Charles Barkley, who had previously endorsed Gill for the position, criticized Auburn's passing over of Gill in favor of Chizik, saying "race was the No. 1 factor. You can say it's not about race, but you can't compare the two résumés and say [Chizik] deserved the job. Out of all the coaches they interviewed, Chizik probably had the worst résumé."[6]

The following day, Buffalo announced that Gill had agreed to a contract extension and a raise[7]. Gill's contract now runs through 2013 and makes him one of the highest-paid coaches in the MAC.

It will be really interesting to see if Buffalo has a winning record next year if Gill stays.  I believe he's willing to about anything to get out of Buffalo now while he can.  That one year of good will is about to run out.

A friend of mine who is a Nebraska football, ku football (sometimes), and ku basketball fan (really who ever is winning at the time).  Was trying to convince me how Turner Gill is an amazing coach.

Not buying it.  2-10, 5-7, 8-6 and 5-7.... wow 20-30  AWESOME!!!  I know buffalo was one of the worst teams in the country but one fluke winning season at this point (that's familar).  Finished the conference year behind powerhouses Ohio, Temple, Bowling Green and Kent State (that's just in their division).

So yea bring in Turner, at least he will be nice to the players  :kugayfight:

Seems like we may have a mutual friend. Had this same argument with my friend who happens to be a die-hard Nebraska football fan, but attends ku and "follows" their sports.

The funny thing is Gill was never anything more then a position coach at NU.  Osborne and Solich were both their own offensive cordinators.  When Solich finally decided to hire an offensive cordinator he passed over Gill to hire Barney Cotton from New Mexico State.  Barny Cotton is an awful offensive cordinator pretty much single handily got Dan Mcarney fired from Iowa State with his play calling.

I personally would take Mark Mangino over Gene Chizik, Doug Marrone, Barney Cotton or Turner Gill.
