Will have presser tomorrow.   Allegedly was told he could remain on as an ambassador next year or he could retire but that he could not coach.   Chose to retire.

Hate to see the d00d forced out like that.  t0tal slimeball, but for some reason I can't help but love the golf hat-wearin' bastard.

I would have too. Bobby Bowden doesn't need someone's charity.

I used to think he was a scumbag, but after finding out what he did for Marshall while head coach at WVU, I gained a lot of respect for him.

Better job than ND, which is a better job than Virginia, which might not be quite as good a job as ku, which is an absolutely shi† job.

Bowden was forced out because Jimbo was getting antsy.

They are &@#%ing fools if they stick with Jimbo and that staff.  The big criticism is that they are lagging in recruiting.  That's the &@#%ing staff.

Get Bowden in here for DC and then when Joe Pa retires grab him for OC. We'd be the oldest bunch around...

only 19 undefeated seasons to go!

as a depressing side note:
Mack Brown is catching Bill quickly in the total conference wins dept.

The guy gets a lot of criticism these days for things like midday naps and being a hands-off coach.  But the guy did more for FSU and Tallahassee than can ever be repaid.

Just look at some of the numbers:

14 STRAIGHT TOP 5 National finishes (1987-2000) ...that's top 5 in BOTH polls for 14 years playing BOTH Miami and FLA every year, some of the best teams in those program's history (Note-FLA and Miami don't play each other often)

14 straight seasons with double digit wins (1987-2000)

12 ACC Championships in 14 years (1992-2005)

21-10-1 bowl record...and in winning all those ACC championships we're talking BCS quality bowls

32 Straight winning seasons

25 seasons with 9 or more wins:
7- 9 win seasons
7- 10 win seasons
9- 11 win seasons
2- 12 win seasons

17 BCS Tier Bowl Games (Sugar, Orange, Fiesta)

Pretty amazing for a school that was all girls until after WWII....good luck Jimbo...

BB hasn't been running the team for 3 years now.  This is a total sham.  Jimbo has been running that team for years now.  JBF has been doing the recruiting and the player development.  JBF has been working with the lines and qbs.  These have continue to FAIL terribly.

That's what I am saying...firing Bobby isn't going to solve much if they leave the staff there.

The FSU linemen thread scares the crap out of me.  FSU shouldn't be doing that.

I'm a huge FSU fan fyi to the board.  I watch a lot of ACC football, that why I LOLer hard when uk talks about their triumphant victory over V-Tech.

Why does Florida State get to request that his last game be played in a bowl game in the state of Florida? Is this a sign of just how corrupt college football has become?

...ummm they're also trying to work with the ACC to request they play West Virginia in that bowl game, because that is where Bowden coached before coming to FSU.

But to answer your question, yes they are that corrupt and all they want to do is sell tickets to the game.  So FSU will likely get what they want.
