I didnt realize Huggs has them in the top ten. They get elite talent? or just good drunk/coaching?
Simple; Huggs is a ridiculously good coach who has recruited well at West Virginia*.
*No matter how much Johnny Walker Red is pumped through his system.
Elite Wildcat fans know that Huggs didn't drink that cheap Johnny Walker Red crap, he went with the Blue Label.
Huggs could get talented players anywhere...and if he didn't, he would get mediocre talent to play harder than anyone else and still win. The guy is underrated, as a coach, not as an alcoholic...

Would you rather I use the term "underappreciated"? Even though he gets lots of praise, I don't think people realize that he is probably a top 5 coach in the nation when you consider the total package that he brings in building a program. If they did, and I hate saying this, he would have had better offers than Kansas State when he landed in Manhattan.
People don't think he sucks, and I'm not saying this, they just don't give him the respect he deserves, IMO...
he gets all the respect he deserves, because he doesn't deserve much respect. he's a self aggrandizing boob of a human being. people are well aware that huggins can coach, and more importantly, recruit. they don't want the rest of the sh*t that comes with him, that's why he was subject to a 1 year sentence in MHK. no other reason.
True, it is all about perception and this is why he was left w/ us as his job after being fired at Cincinnati.
True, he is self-aggrandizing, but this may actually help him in his profession.
He gave guys chances at Cincy that big programs passed on due to character questions. He did this out of necessity to start because he inherited a garbage program upon arrival. Most of these guys came and went with little consequence off the court. A few turned out to have serious problems. Huggs cannot be blamed for off the court matters (other than his own, which is where he deserves the criticism). A big part of his negative perception was due to his players off the court actions. This is where I think he gets a bad wrap. The on-the court criticism that is warranted is his tendency to get knocked off by an underdog in the tournament.
Off the top of my head - coaches I'd rather have run my program than Huggins:
Izzo, Calhoun, Boeheim, Krzyzewski all others are arguably at his level or below, in my opinion.
