Didn't notice this anywhere here.  Did you guys catch Pomeroy's conference preview?

http://kenpom.com/pdf/big12.pdf

sys, don't tell me YOU didn't!  Interesting stuff, for sure.  One thing I found interesting relates to some news that just hit ... Jarrius Jackson being dismissed from TTU.  Boy, that hurts.  Pomeroy mentions in the TTU writeup that Jackson was the most important player to his team, probably more important than any other player in the conference.  It was cool that my analysis showed the same thing (i.e., Jackson was "most indispensable player")

Anyway, was interested in what you guys thought about Pomeroy's write-ups on KSU and ku?

Quit posting crap that other people already have.  You've done it before and you're doing it again.

Sorry.  I did a search for Pomeroy to make sure this wasn't a repeat, but it didn't bring up anything.  The thread with this info (by sys) had a title of something like "Didn't see this posted" ... kind of hard to assess from that title.

Pissclams, not sure what you mean by saying that I've "done it before" and am "doing it again."  I've rarely posted here at all, and this was my first ever topic introduced.  I did so after what I thought was a reasonable attempt at avoiding duplication.  My thread title clearly states what the topic is, so if you've seen it, just don't open it.  What's with the hate, dude?

it was a nice effort by pomeroy, but to be honest it was a little dissapointing.  the criteria for his predictions aren't outlined, he doesn't often clearly address how coaching/personnel changes will impact his posthoc analyses, etc.  all in all, i thought it could have been better written.

but still, good stuff.  i would agree about jackson, except i hold no hope that he won't be reinstated sooner rather than later.

i thought the roby comments were insightful, as well as some of the southern team's stuff.

with respect to ksu, i thought he made a couple of accurate and interesting points.  one concering how efficient martin was last year.  i think martin could have taken more shots and retained that effeciency, but i know others disagree.  and second that a weakness for ksu last year (ball handling) is a strength of huggin's teams in general.

with respect to ku, i wish he would have called out self for allowing robinson to shoot so much.  and for not getting kaun the ball more.  i'm not one who thinks self is a bad coach, but i truly fail to understand how he can't get more shots to the right people.
"these are no longer “games” in the commonly accepted sense of the term. these are free throw shooting contests leavened by the occasional sprint to the other end of the floor."

sys,

I agree with you on all the points you brought up.  With respect to Pomeroy's criteria for predictions ... I think you're dead on.  The strength of his work is in the systematic evaluation of data.  Once you introduce hunches and intuition, then you're in pretty much the same world as everyone else.  But at the very least, he could have indicated what those guesses were.  My guess is he didn't make his predictions in a purely quantitative way ... how could he, right?

Personally, I'm surprised he didn't put Cartier on the 1st team.  I think the kid is a special talent and a tremendous athlete.
