I've always felt that the contract restructuring/raise a few years ago was all Lew's plan to can Mangino.  I think Lew used the new contract to do a couple of things: lower the buy-out, toughen language about reasons for termination without compensation, increase expectations with the unearned overcompensation, and demonstrate commitment to FB to the coaching community by paying big $$ and new facilities.  Mangino was coming off a 6-6, non-bowl season, there wre NCAA issues that needed to be covered-up, and FB was pretty meh up to that point.  Another meh year and Lew could can him and still look good to potential candidates.  But then the worst thing for Lew happened; 12-1, OB victory, and COY.

Now after the biggest media build-up of ku FB in history results in history still waiting and Lew can use all of the negatives he has stored in the closet to turn the fan base against their FB "savior" to justify getting rid of him less than 2 years after the highpoint of the program.

Don't.  He's a lying, cheating, conniving, unethical simp....This is all about a spoiled know-nothing basketball fanbase.  All of MM's "warts" were okay when they were respectable....when there's a 5-game, goin' on 7, game implosion...they all have a hissy.  They never had a problem with the shenanigans of the academic cheatin', just throw a low-level GA under the bus.  They never had a problem with his HS outburts, just dismiss it....and the list rolls on.....but go on a losin' streak with no more tickets to sell/give away....and bang you're dead......just win....nothing more nothing less.

Nah.  They'd be getting ready to head into year 3 next year under a new coach.

Lew and Jabba (of the KC Star) should be ashamed of themselves.  Pretending that Mangino's verbal/physical abuse of players is rare in the world of D1 coaches is just laughable.  Mangino went from coach of the year to radioactive in 2 years.  If Lew would have allowed him a graceful exit (i.e., paid his buyout money), the tubster could have landed another gig at a respectable university. Now? Forget it.  Does this open Lew and his cohorts up to defamation of character suits given that Mangino is probably not exceptionally abusive to his players but that Lew decided to make this "investigation" exceptionally public (particularly if they divulge the gory details, which they would pretty much have to do to avoid paying his buyout, no?)?

I just read Tubby's columns about Mangino.  What a &@#%ing joke by that bastard Perkins to try to gin up reasons to fire the guy.  How about sacking up and just doing what you're going to do without trying to turn it into Days of our Lives?  Sour Lou is almost as bad as Krause.

Mangino:  I'm going to retire here after about 10 more years of coaching the hawks!

Lew:  Gufaw!

I still want my cooler, bitches!

Don't feel too bad for him. Stoopsie will hire him back as OC in a minute and they'll be in the NC hunt next year with a new and improved spread offense. In 3 or 4 years he'll be up for HC positions again and if he goes out to a coast, all this crap won't follow him.

Lew is absolutely destroying the man.  Not just his coaching time at ku but long term.

Heard the Jack Harry interview this morning.  Really can't help but feel bad for the guy on a humanistic level.  He sounded totally deflated, but kept trying to sunshine pump and seem "business as usual."  I would take him back on our sidelines in a heartbeat.

If he would have left KSU with an ounce of integrity vs the way he actually left, I would agree with you. The man is a complete waste.

QFT.  Include the ku fanbase, though.  "Coaches are never mean to players, but football players and basketball players get in fights with each other on campuses all over the country on a daily basis."

That is exactly why I do not feel sorry mm. Integrity still means something and from everything I read and heard about his departure to ou he has none.

I would not go as far to call him a waste though.
