2 reasons that isn't going to happen:

#1.  He won't leave UConn due to the death of one of their players this year....doubt he would want to bail on them.

#2.  He knows how bad it sucks to be a football coach at a basketball school, why would he want to move to a fan base that has that mentality worse than UConn fans?

The guy has a career record of 62-62 and is 15-21 in the Big East.  Overall, he's had 4 winning seasons in his 11 years on the job.  This with a great NEW stadium to recruit with at UConn.  Edsall had early success with QB Dan Orlovsky who was definately a prized recruit and is still in the NFL.  2007 was also pretty good for the UConn as they shared a Big East "Championship" with West Virginia, who stomped them 66-21 in the final game of the regular season.  Wake Forest then stomped them again in the uber prestigious Meineke Car Care Bowl.  UConn has never finished ranked in either poll.

I know Randy Edsall. Good man - he's from York, Pa., which is where I worked before I went to Wichita. I went up to UConn - I was born nearby in Hartford, by the way - and he talked even then about Lew Perkins, who hired him, I believe, at UConn. There is history there, and the truth is, UConn football is the third biggest sport there - behind Calhoun's men's basketball and Geno's women's team. Given this, and the fact that there isn't a natural recruiting base in Connecticut - not a whole lot of talent in New England - I honestly think if Mangino is shown the door, Edsall becomes the guy to watch. In fact, I texted someone this earlier today. Doesn't surprise me at all, and I think he'd be successful in Lawrence. Not decade of dominance successful, but I don't think he'd be hitting anyone, either. Decent recruiter, but not a powerhouse. Yes, they built a new stadium at UConn, but no one cares about UConn football up there. It's just a fact.

I'd almost be surprised if it was Edsall.  Lew, imo, has to get a big name or at least someone who'll energize the donor fanbase....not sure that Edsall does this.  Lew's got a lot of money riding on this hire (though, imo, he'll be gone before the next hire is determined a failure or success...basically before the checks get cashed, so to speak).

Maybe they weren't looking at him.  Or they were asleep.  Or on a stretcher with their head immoblized as a precautionary measure.  Or under anesthesia in the midst of some sort of surgery.  Maybe they were just in a coma.

I mean, if you think about it, it is possible.

Bring him on, my guess though is uk goes for a name coach that has been successful elsewhere. If lew is smart he would do as his predecessor and go after a hot upcoming coordinator. Strike that if lew was smart he would stay with the coach he has right now. Amazing how little time a 12-1 followed by a an 8-5 season bought mangino. lew must dispise mm.

Perkins has wanted Edsall since he arrived...he's had to endure the Bohl leftover....because in fact, Mangino has been successful, not DOD successful, but better than the ingrates at the flaw deserve.

Don Fambrough seems like a good fit. Pretty much following the KSU lead of bringing in a veteran coach. Granted he is a little older (88) than most coaches and cheated a lot (a ku trademark) but he should be pretty refreshed after a 27 year absence from coaching.

So, Masta Seff will already have a football coach that knows how to assume the position. Seems like a perfect fit.
