Am currently working on an addition/remodel to a medical facility. As you can imagine, there is no shortage of uk alumns and supporters working in this facility. This morning, as I was inspecting a room we had just completed, I happened to overhear part of a conversation between a doctor and a drug rep. I typically don't pay much attention to the activities of the staff but I couldn't help but eavesdrop on this one. The doctor was giving the rep his 2009 uk football poster. The covo went something like this:
"I'm done with football. It's not even worth following anymore."
"Yeah, a freind of mine has a son who is a walk-on. He says everyone is pissed off and not even really trying now. Said they really don't care if they win anymore because if they become bowl eligible, they'll have to keep going to practice for another month just to go to a crappy bowl."
"I know. I saw where it would be the Independence Bowl or something like that. I think in Shreveport, La."
They then went on for a minute or so talking about kids needing to put forth effort regardless since they are getting a free education and having that opportunity and all. Now comes the real kicker. The drug rep ended the convo with the following:
"Well thanks for the poster anyway. Hey, look at it this way, we know we can count on the basketball team to at least try."
It was all I could do to contain myself. I so wanted to go running in there in my purple-day before game day-shirt and scream EMAW right in their faces. Instead I let my EMAW pride well up within me and laughed quietly at the patheticness of uk fans.
