What Big XII school has the largest/smalleset fanbase?

What Big XII school has the smallest fanbase?

Serious guestion here. I was reading some of the comments on the ESPN blog for a good laugh, but one got me thinking. It was in response to the fact that Okie State @ Iowa State was awarded the ABC spot. They said that ISU and OSU probably have the smallest fanbases of the conference. Gut reaction was, that's not true. However, I'm sure we're one of the smaller ones. Where would we fall? I'm guessing that Baylor, as a private school in Waco, has the smallest followed by Okie State and Iowa State. Texas Tech must be somewhere down there too. Mizzou and Nebraska each have their own state. I'm doubting the fanbase of Nebraska- Kearney (can't spell drunk without UNK) challenges the Huskers too much. However, NE population isn't huge.KSU can't be too large either. So I'm curious what would you say the order of fanbases is?

I would say that u have MIZZOU to high. THey probably closer to something like between us and KSU. For the non traditional power teams like texas and OU and even the nubbs(there is nothing else to do on saturday in NEB), it really depends on the bandwagon fans. So for the past couple of years, yes MIZZOU and uk would be ahead of us. But during DOD, did people even go to larrytown untill november anyways?

Here in the Austin metro area I've seen more Oklahoma State gear on cars than I have Baylor gear. It's kinda sad. You never really find "IRL" fans of either around here though. The only time you find Baylor fans is if they go there or are alums. Also, think about it, how many people are actually FANS of CU these days?

My stab:

1. UT - Texas t-shirt fans are teh suck
2. OU - 7 national titles will get you a lot of fans although a lot of them are more hayseed than some of the "ag" schools
3. A&M - Aggie fanbase and North Korea are interchangeable in numbers and types of behavior
4. NU - Bandwagon fans have mostly jumped off, but they still have a ton of fans nationwide
5. Kansas - Basketball-only bandwagon fans comes into play here
6. MU - They'd be above Kansas w/out the basketball aspect
7. Texas Tech - Lots more fans in the state, New Mexico and southern CO than you would think
8. Oklahoma State - Big dropoff between Tech and them.
9. Kansas State - Couple of EMAW'ers still chillin' outside of Kansas I guess
10. Iowa State - Fanbase consists of Haverhill, a couple of corn farmers and a cow
11. Colorado - They're all too busy skiing and getting plowed every weekend (not that there's anything wrong with that)
12. Baylor - Does not actually exist, like the University itself.

Okay heres the answer.  You guys have to realize that basketball is actually a more popular sport than football due in large part to the tournament.  You said "largest fanbases" and that means bandwagon jumpers primarily.

1. Texas - In the state of Texas you are either a Longhorn or an Aggie, mostly longhorns now b/c they are on top
2. Oklahoma - Mostly b/c of winning football, but large fanbase nonetheless
3. Texas A&M - See Texas. A&M plays 2nd fiddle to the horns
4. Nebraska - Only 1 div 1a football team in the state and nothing else to do in Nubb land
5. Missouri - Only 1 div 1a football team in the state. Surprising they aren't higher given the population in the state of Missouri
6. Kansas State - Purple is the main color in the state of Kansas except maybe the bad parts of the KC area & also Douglas county, home of the squawks
7. Oklahoma State - Mainly b/c of Boone Pickens
8. Texas Tech - Popularity increasing, but still 3rd place in the state of Texas
9. Kansas - Lot of basketball fans, but despite being 30 minute drive from KC, STILL can't sell out their stadiums for some reason
10. Colorado - Kind of a small following considering Colorado is pretty well populated. Maybe b/c they suck at all sports?
11. Iowa State -2nd fiddle to Iowa U in the small state of Iowa
12. Baylor - Small college. Only get excited about womens hoops

Is this a question on Football fans or Just straight college fans?  Because ku would be in the bottom half of football fans While I think KSU while losing a lot in the last 5 years has a better number than half of the big 12 schools

1. Texas - UT logo seen everywhere, partly since they win consistently, partly cuz folks like their uterus logo.
2. Oklahoma - there are rednecks & white trash everywhere, so large fanbase inside & outside the state.
3. Nebraska - After the corn harvest, what else is there to do in Nebraska? Outstate fans who remember when Nubb was actually competent.
4. Texas A&M - Fracking psycho fans, mostly army wannabes  & whacko militia types, but unfortunately a lot of them.
5. Missouri - Pretty popular in-state, except in the KC & STL metros, where there's a lot of drift to ku (KC) and Big 10 (STL). I think it's mostly the black & gold thing.
6. Kansas State - Purple pretty much THE official state color for football.  
7. Oklahoma State - Always 2nd fiddle to OU, which gives them major inferiority complex, even though a classier bunch than the Norman inbreds.
8. Texas Tech - Tech fans have major complex about both UT and aTm, largely from living away from civilization in the flat middle of nowhere. Tech is a W. Texas thing; good thing no one lives there.
9. Kansas - At ku, football is just a mildly interesting interlude between end of basketball  and re-start of basketball.  Fans wear BBall shirts to games cuz it's all they own.
10. Colorado - Fanbase mostly the Boulder area and even there fragmented, cuz there are so many other fun things to do when stoned.
11. Iowa State -Alas, trapped between the  Corndogs and the whole Big 10 dooms them to a smallish fanbase.
12. Baylor - Small private college in Waco. 'Nuff said.
