Is it that you're all talk no substance? Just pretend you know everything? You just pretend to know what you're talking about? Just to instigate? What?

When it comes to computers, mostly...Usually...Usually...yes, of course.

Still won't use Google Chrap though.

Typical Mac user.  :users:

Mac user? I have a MacBook, yes, but I also have a Lenovo with W7, and run VMWare on the Mac with instances of XP and Ubuntu.

Don't you pigeonhole me.   :nono:

Non fanboy update!  I kinda like W7 so far I guess.  Desktop looks clean and seems a little bit more "snappy" (< high computer IQ term we elites use).  I guess it was woth the $50 I paid for it.

On a scale of  to  :yuck: I'll give it a  :)

It's pretty damn fast, for sure. Also enjoying the hover preview for taskbar items.

I just started using the "play to" feature in WMP 12. It's pretty awesome.

In 3-4 weeks, tell me if there was really any reason to bother with it.  I do as little or less computer stuff as you, and everything works fine for me as is.  :dunno:

OK

I would buy it Trim.  If you spend a lot of time on your laptop it's prolly worth it.  Or, just make your work buy it for you somehow.

I've had the free copy for a few weeks now.  I bought the Sony laptop with Vista (after ksufans ads/viruses destroyed my old one) a few months ago, so they mailed the windows 7 upgrade when it came out.

I'm very LCIQ.  For the most part, I have everything from my old laptop working just right on this new Sony with Vista, so unless windows 7 is incredibly beneficial for the limited things I do, I'm inclined to not f with it.

I know there's no way I'd spend my own time messing with it; I'd be paying the place I always use to do while I'm at work or something.  Mainly, I just don't like change on things like this unless there's an overwhelming benefit.

It's pretty easy to upgrade if you have vista.  It takes a while but it handles it's own business while you walk away and make some nachos or something.  I would upgrade since it's free but that's just me.  When you insert the disc it walks you through it.

You literally just put in the Sony disc for a few minutes, and then put in the Windows 7 disc for awhile.  It does everything on it's own, but it does ask for your permission to do a few things.  At least mine did.

Did you have to back up all of your stuff before you upgraded? Because I can't decipher whether I need to or not.

Not if you have Vista.  If you have XP I think it's a pain in the ass and you should probably just keep XP.

Nah, the manufacturer's disc (Dell, Sony, HP, etc) preps for the W7 upgrade disc, doing everything that needs to be done.  The 1st disc will close/deactivate/uninstall, etc some programs, but the tail end of the W7 upgrade disc will automatically reinstall, open, etc everything.  Now, I've only upgraded an HP and a Dell, but I would imagine every other upgrade is the same.

Also, low computer IQ people, post your computer questions that you are embarrassed about here so high computer IQ types can answer them.  Don't feel shame, look how sd just asked questions!  It's cool to suck at computers as far as I can tell!

How do I get stuff from tv to computer (youtube-ready)?  Either direct from dvr to computer or from a dvd (that I make off the dvr) to the computer?

Saw this - http://vupointsolutions.com/DVC-ST100-VP.asp - at Bed, Bath and Beyond, but it looks like a non-elite overpriced thing marketed to LCIQ people (which I am, but they don't realize I have access to the ksufans "Windows 7" thread).  Of course, Bed, Bath and Beyond is where I previously saw the MANGROOMER*, so perhaps it is a decent high-tech device.

I haven't made an attempt at ripping from dvd.  Maybe it's really simple.  :dunno:

Also, what's the purpose of Windows Media Center?  I don't think I have a tv tuner.  Also don't see what the benefit of having one would be.  I have cable and televisions in my house.

*See ball-shaving thread

I think if you had a TV tuner it would make your first question much easier to solve as it would already be on your computer.  Not sure here.  I think clams has a dongle for his laptop that does this.

ya i have a usb dongle that i can either plug in an antenna to and pick up over the air HD, or plug in my coax and record games with.

my imac is 24" so i use it as an extra tv.  over the air HD is very elite.

Cheesy Mustache QB might make an appearance.

I need an EMAW to help me out asap.  Please spoon feed me the directions for the solution or else I wont know what the hell you're talking about.  tia.  :kstatriot:

This is a firewall or router issue. Try turning off your firewall and see if that works.

I didn't know the free version of AVG even had a firewall. Not sure why that would affect ports.

I was talking about the Windows firewall.
