A post on the other board raised the topic.  Given that ku does, as usual, have a very good frontcourt this is the first time I can recall that we might have the numbers and talent to compete there other than having one stud down low in Beasley.

Basically the paint will consist of the following players for ku and KSU:

ku
Marcus Morris 6-8 225 Soph
Thomas Robinson 6-9 230 Fr
Markeiff Morris 6-9 232 Soph
Cole Aldrich 6-11 245 Sr
Jeff Whithey 7-0 225 Fr

KSU
Jamar Samuels 6-7 220 Soph
Curtis Kelly 6-8 239 Jr
Wally Judge 6-9 245 Fr
Luis Colon 6-10 265 Sr
Jordan Henriquez-Roberts 7-0 245 Fr

I think we likely will have the best scorer of either group in Kelly but ku will undoubtedly have the best defender/rebounder in Aldrich. We have the best athlete of the bunch in Judge.

Now that's how you get out a f***ing blood stain.
Aldrich will be the best scorer, rebounder defender out of any of those guys.

Aldrich and the Morris twins are better than anyone we have.  Even if you say the Morris twins are kind of equal to Kelly and Judge offensively (defensively ku's guys are miles better) the gap in talent due to Aldrich is huge.

There's a couple reason ku is basically a unanimous #1.  Cole Aldrich is one of them.

Aldrich is still limited offensively. Honestly, he's ridiculously overrated.
It is a tragedy because now, we have at least an extra month without Cat football until next year. I hate wasting my life away but I can hardly wait until next year.

Aldrich is a first team all american and Big 12 POY candidate.  Clear advantage to the Hawks here.  Agreed on coaching advantage for the cats.

he's the only reason.

they have other good players, but aldrich is what separates them from the pack.  he's not overrated at all, he's an outstanding player.

Yes Aldrich is by far the best (right now) and it's not even an argument.  But to say the Morris twins are kind of equal to Kelly and Judge offensively is a bunch of crap.  I would give the nod to ku's frontcourt also but we are more athletic and more balanced than ku's frontcourt.  Would you really take either of the Morris twins over Kelly, Judge, or JamSam?

Don't be a homer.  Judge has never played college ball.  Kelly has, very poorly.  Also, you are including our freshman but not theirs.  Why is that?

Judge has never played college ball.  Exactly!  That's why it's a bunch of crap to say the Morris twins are better.  We have no idea of what Judge will do becuase we know very little from a high school all american game and 5 minutes of scrimmage.  I know that is why my argument is flawed also, but I can be a homer and take the Mcdonalds all-american from our team over the two morris twins who I watched a lot of last year and was unimpressed with.  Also I was just comparing Judge, JamSam, and Kelly to the Morris twins.  I don't know much about the Whitney kid or the other freshman from ku.

    I think therefore I think I'm hungry
It's true that Aldrich is not the best (as in, most skilled) player in this little scenario (Arguments could be made for others, but that's for another thread). However, Aldrich is by far the biggest impact player on either team. When they're playing well and running the entire offense through him, they are nearly unstoppable. On defense, a big man who can move a little is probably the top item on every bball coach's wish list. If the hawks play as well as people think they will, expect player of the year talk for Mr. Aldrich. Personally, I'm hoping he blows out a knee early in the season and jumps to the pros (a la S. Bradford).

    I survived the Dickey/Parrish era.
Aldrich is the best agreed, but the uk talent drops off significantly after that.

The way I see it is we have 15 fouls to their 5.

I am just excited about the fact that we have some guys with . . . what's that word I am looking for . .  oh yeah, abiliity.  We've got size, we've got hops, we should be able to finish, and we can run LU in for 5 cheap shot fouls.

Couple that with what should be good guard play and IMO we can hold our own against anyone.

I have just one comment on Kelly.  We should be very careful to give all the credit to how he performed at UCONN.  Not that UCONN's coaching sucks, but perhaps Kelly has matured and has always had the skillz and talent.  The difference is that he is now ready to use it and under the great leadership of Frank, Frank will make him even better than those lofty expectations out of HS.

Aldrich is still limited offensively. Honestly, he's ridiculously overrated.

+1

Guy can't score with his back to the basket (I actually have never seen him catch the ball and NOT travel), very good shot blocker, not a great defender (there is a difference!!!)

I think our frontcourt probably runs the floor better and rebounds better, there's probably passes the ball better and shoots better.  Two completely different offensive systems

Quit being a dumbass.  You are comparing only two of their players against our three best post players.  You admit to not knowing anything about Whithey so here is his profile on Rivals
http://rivals.yahoo.com/ncaa/basketball/recruiting/player-Jeff-Withey-47100

And here is Thomas Robinson's

http://rivals.yahoo.com/ncaa/basketball/recruiting/player-Thomas-Robinson-83404

You include Judge and Kelly in your analysis but don't include ku's transfer and freshman.  Nobody else is just comparing the twins with our entire roster.  All of this before even getting to Aldrich.

You guys should learn to read.  I said ku's frontcourt is better.  We have no one close to Aldrich, I know, no team does.  I was arguing with the guy who said the Morris twins were better than Judge and Kelly.  That is all.

Also, I've seen the profiles of Robinson and Whitney,  and if that's all you've seen from them than you probably don't know much about there games either.

All you've seen from Kelly and Wally is possibly a morning practice and some youtube vids and you are declaring them to be better than the Morris twins who have a year of Big 12 ball    Now, I hope they're better but you can't throw out Robinson and Whithey on the same merits

ku is better based on all available knowns.  Their three returning bigs are far superior to our two returners.  On paper, our new bigs are probably better to their new players, so that's good, but it certianly doesn't level the playing field.  The main reason to be hopeful about this year, is that both teams will probably only go three bigs deep in the head to head matchups.  So if Judge and Kelly play up their potential as 5-stars, then we should be in decent shape.  However, that remains to be seen.

One thing I can say about the ku match-up, I believe this to be the first year in the last 20 that we can go athlete-for-athlete 8 deep.  Their guys are more skilled as a whole, but they can't just have an off day and still beat us based simply on being bigger, faster, stronger and more atheletic.
Cada hombre un gato salvaje!
