Here's my problem with these preseason polls, not that anyone cares. In 2007, K-State, with a bunch of freshmen, was ranked 18th in the preseason poll. It wasn't warranted because they hadn't proven anything yet. Now, Kentucky is ranked No. 5 in the preseason because of a heralded freshmen recruiting class. This is a team that lost in the NIT last year, I don't care if they do have a new coach and better players, I don't think it can be turned around that fast.

Now K-State, with more depth, experience, and perhaps talent than that 2007 squad, barely cracks the top 40 in getting votes. Doesn't make a whole lot of sense.

Anderson's ability to lock down the recruiting borders of his immediate family :dunno:

Good points, but its the nature of the beast.

And while we're all positive, I'm sure many still question the front court.  We all think Kelly and Judge will be great, but from the outside Kelly is probably still viewed as a high ranking kid that did nothing at UConn and Judge probably isn't quite into the "can't miss frosh" category perception-wise.  So they are probably thinking Colon and Samuels are our "proven" front court players.

As for Anderson, he's got the "good coach" rep from his connection to Richardson and "sustaining" a program at UAB.  So most probably just think he'll keep what he has going, even with some major departures from last year's overachieving team.

i have a hard time believing that any of the coaches care enough to put any thought into it. i bet half have a grad assistant fill it out for them.

Why in the f*ck is ku #1???
It is a tragedy because now, we have at least an extra month without Cat football until next year. I hate wasting my life away but I can hardly wait until next year.

I would love to see some stats on how correct the preseason polls are to the final versions.  I would laugh if it is over 65% relevant.  As they say, that is why they play the games.  For my 2 cents  I will call both OU and OSU the most over-rated teams in the Big 12 going into the season.

    Hey, basketball!!!
Why does everyone think Missouri will be good?

An elite eight run will do that for you. It's almost a certainty that you will make the top thirty for the next season strictly just because of that...

Normally I'd agree, but with the talent they have they can compete in the non con.  They should beat one or both of Indiana and Miami.  If they steal a North Carolina (also a lot of young talent) or a Uconn/Louisville, then they will will stay top 10 with their level of talent and their conference.

silly thread.  This is a national poll....the national poll will lack information.  Look at how the coaches in the conference voted for the pre-season conference poll.

I question the praise for OU...what do they base it on?  Warren plus the fat kid down low?  I realize Gallon is a talent but they lost a ton of leadership from last year's squad.

coaches nailed it imo.

I think Kstate is one of the best 25 basketball programs in the country. Sorry, don't see it any other way with who we have coming back and who we have on the roster. ..and a coaching staff that is, at times, bat $hit crazy to win basketball games.

4th best team in the Big XII in 08-09.  Return the entire team, add a legit big man, and a McDs All-American.  We finish no worse than 4th in the Conference in 09-10.

Does the Big XII suck that bad?  The 3rd-4th best team in the conference shouldn't be ranked?

Are we the f'n colonial conference?

Absolutely K-State is a top 25 team.

We were 4th place, not 4th best.  Think of it this way, a top 4 seed in the NIT is probably 45th to 55th best team.  We added the 20th to 25th best recruiting class to that.  You can bet, most of the teams ahead of us in the recruit rankings were better than us last year too.  Even if you figure a lot of teams lost a ton, I'm not sure you can definitely say are top 25.  Last April we didn't make the tourny, but based on a 1-1 NIT and a top 25 class, we should be a 5 seed or better if the tournament was today?  don't see it.

I do think we have top 25 potential/talent.  But we need to prove it.

is K-State the only team that gets better in the off season, cause that'd be cool if we are?

Cheesy Mustache QB might make an appearance.

    Angry KSU Fan.
Gained more than we lost.  Will be better.

But a lot of good talent was brought into the Big XII this year, and a lot of good talent stayed that could have gone pro.  I'm thinking a 3rd or 4th place finish in the conference standings..par for the course lately.
