    The very best.
kind of weird. i mean, he's not marc dunn or evridge running the option.

he's also not ell, but that could be a decent thing, cause ell never pitched the ball. luv ya E3. Luv ya.  :steadymobbin':
It is a tragedy because now, we have at least an extra month without Cat football until next year. I hate wasting my life away but I can hardly wait until next year.

Ell also loved having the weight of 3 men piled on him.

He also has good timing in his pitches--not too early in a way that doesn't fool any of the pursuit, but not too late where the back is going to run into the same wall the QB will.  A very unselfish style of play because the QB with good timing on the option often gets hit pretty hard by DL's and LB's in pursuit.  Gregory has shown himself to be among the best option QB's in terms of timing I've ever seen.  He does not have the absolute power that Ell (sure miss that guy) Roberson, but has better pitch timing.

Gregory is kinda a poor man's Matt Miller.  Not as skilled overall, but similar in both running and throwing.

Ell was always looking to run and he and darren would lose their angles.

I made the same mention Saturday.  Five minutes later he chucked the ball off the lead blocker's facemask. :scared:

    shame on you, non-believers
Yes, shame on Ell for deciding to run for 20 easy yards a pop instead of pitching the ball.

Luv ya fats! Luv ya.

Really all this says to me is that Grant Gregory has the ability to be coached because let's be honest he has to run the option this way or it would never work for this team. As for Ell, he was "selfish" and did not have textbook timing on pitches because he could take the ball to the house at almost any time on the field. Having a QB that can run with the ball is what makes a good option team. Gregory has shown the ability to make the right decision and play within himself - which is all it takes to get on the field at QB this season. I'm not trying to hate on GG, but I'm not going to say he runs the option "really well" yet. If GG was in the backfield w/ Keithen Valentine, not DT, would anyone be close to saying he runs the option "really well"?

I agree w/ the poor man's Matt Miller comparison for GG... :billypopcorn:

Probably his biggest asset on the option is his ability to pitch quickly.  Just like having a quick passing release, he can be in a full run and a split second later the ball is in DT's hands.  Lots of guys long arm pitch or break down their stance to pitch.  GG is able to hit the RB on the fly.  Amazing how many times he's pitched just a hair before getting hammered.

good point. The 'quick flick' is what we're needing out there..and accurate. They seem to be on the same page on that play but its very risky against better defenses. Colorado got pretty much owned with it. If it works on Kansas they are so fracking fracked.

What the back does after the toss is up to the back, and isn't Valentine at or near the top of the conference in yards per carry?

True, it is up to the back, I'm just arguing that our perception of how GG runs the option is partially a consequence of what DT does.

Valentine's yards per carry is irrelevant considering most of those carries were against inferior opponents or during blowouts - 11 v. UMASS, 10 v. Tenn Tech, and 10 v. A&M.

His yards per carry would be considerably lower if he were playing as much as DT and in the same situations. Although, if under 50 carries qualifies you, Keithen would be near the top as he is averaging over 7 yards per carry now (on 46 carries).

Agreed on the quick pitch point regarding GG, reminds me of some of NU's QB's - Frost and Crouch...
