I spent the nineties in California where preinternet news about the Cats was pretty much nonexistant.  Is there any sort of story about how the above originated?  I can't quite see that as one of Snyder's 'details'.

You have a short memmory. The Texas Tech game we gave up 700+ yds of offense. Not exactly the lych mob I remember from the late 90's to early 00's. That said we are improving.

Snyds developed the Lynch Mob to shut down the power rushing attack of the Big 8 /12 back in the day. "Make your opponent one dimensional" he would say. It was a whole lot easier to mob back then but then along came OU and TTech and their pass crazy offenses. We (Simoneau) would nearly kill their QB's but they still beat us. Mobbin these days would be nearly close to impossible in the Big 12.

The "Lynch Mob" title was a message board creation that caught on. Other nicknames were kicked around like "Purple People Eaters", "Purple Hoard", etc. "The Mob" just stuck and soon players were picking it up. I'm pretty sure Josh Buhl was the first to throw up the hand sign in a game. The crowd went berzerk. Those were the days.

Dont know about the hand sign but the first person I ever hear utter the term "Lynch Mob" was Deshawn Fogle at a pep rally before the Holiday Bowl game in 95.

So I guess even us old skool guys were  :steadymobbin':
