But you think, if he wasn't such an ass hat and made just a few better decisions he'd still be around.  Ego got the better of him.

I supported the hire.  Loved his EMAW and thought he was inspiring.  Really loved the hire when he lured Freems away that trainwreck of a progam to our north.  Apparently I am a very gullible and totally unintelligent man.

you people can't tell me that during the week before the ku game in 2008, right after we had beaten top-10 texas @ austin, for the second year in a row, and we were like 4-1 (with our only loss coming at Auburn) that you didn't think Prince knew what he was doing.

i know i did. he had me hook line sinker during that week. the loss to kansas the next week and then how we finished the season got me started on the anti-prince train.

I was beside myself pissed when I heard we'd hired him.  A guy I worked with at the time went to HS with the assistant AD at Virginia and he was told Prince had been offered and would be announced the next day. I was pissed!

He impressed me with his presser and then sold me when he landed Freems.  When he beat UT in his first year I thought we'd hit the jackpot.

I always said he'd either kick ass and be very successful or completely &@#%ing bomb. There was no middle ground.  I hoped for the best.

He is a monumental douchebag but it's not his fault he was offered the job or given the giant &@#%ed up buyout.

How could anyone forget the Michigan rumors? tough not to be completely sold at this point(mid '07) but I think every KSU fan took a valuable lesson from the Prince experiment. Never, under any circumstance(sig wins, great speaker, hype, early recruiting, etc.), get completely behind a first time head coach until he's at least 3-4 years deep into his first tenure. You just don't know how he will recruit or how he will manage his assistant coaches and everything else that goes along with heading up a major college football program until about that time.
Show me defense.

After the first Texas win I'd have humped his leg (or let him hump mine) if he'd have let me. Never had the opportunity to propose this.

Before that I was on the fence... so I'll go with EMAW.

Serious question: What was the timeline? Could Prince have been hired strictly on the basis that he could deliver Freeman to the Wildcats?  Or was that not possible? Obviously this doesn't excuse the train-wreck that insued, but it sure might explain things a bit.

1)  I don't believe Freems was on board until well after Ronny was hired.
2)  You're giving our former admin way too much cred think they would hire a coach strictly based on one recruit.  They weren't that smart  (Beas and FrankTe'stien!!)  Big 12 is now -> :ohno:

At NO point during his entire tenure did I think he was the right choice.  As soon as that game ended, I was telling my friends it was a fluke.  I even got called a "racist" on this site by Fatty for holding this opinion.

I'll give Prince this; for a while he brought a different type of excitement to the program and he is/was an excellent salesman.  I bought what he was selling up until he got beat by a bad ISU team followed by a bad Nebraska team putting 73 on the board against us.  At that point it was pretty clear we were in trouble.

I didn't like him initially, but thought he was a slam dunk after he landed Freeman, and what turned out to be an excellent 2006 class overall.  After that, he pretty much completely sucked in recruiting, which was really his downfall.

    Angry KSU Fan.
His recruiting got really bad really fast.  Some (not all) of his assistant coaches were in way over their heads and were complete unqualified to be in the positions they were in.  Schematically our players were put in some very bad positions.

Freeman (as well as Jordy, Yamon, and Johnson) made him look like he knew what he was doing.  But he didn't really bring in anyone to replace those talents as they graduated.  He was making some really bad offers to kids who probably otherwise wouldn't have played D1 ball at all, let alone BCS.

So while he looked good initially, it became pretty obvious pretty fast that it wasn't going to end well.

And yes, when he was hired, I said "Who the f*ck is Ron Prince?" and was very angry.

when freemaw came on board I was

UT victory I was

calafraud's 73 pts made me

after the whole trainwreck that ensued, I wanted to  :banghead: then  :poundon: weiserwefaldkrause for the RIDIC hire.

i don't follow football recruiting much, did he miss on targets post 2006?  that 2006 class was great.  what changed between 2006 and 2007?  you'd think he would have been able to parlay 2006 into some sort of success in 2007, 2008.  was he such an egomaniac that recruits were tuned out to his crap - like Harper was when Franklin left?
i wonder if his idiotic "take" on football in the B12 led to his demise.  i mean, wasn't he preaching small and faster players?  -which is what all he ended up with, at least to some extent.

i guess i'm asking- what played a bigger role in his failure, his recruiting/player philosophy or his recruiting misses?  and of those two, what caused the problem?

ultimately i don't know if it matters, since the players that did come here were so poorly coached it didn't make much of a difference.

Cheesy Mustache QB might make an appearance.

Seems like he got worse at everything as time went on...recruiting, coaching hires, gameplanning...

Did he get lazy or did recruits start figuring out he was a total jackass and more than a little creepy?

I'm thinking that Franklin, Raheem, Washington, etc were the big time recruiters on his roster and he replaced them with a bunch of freaking NAIA coaches who somehow thought they could win with tiny high school kids and some overrated juco transfers.

when he beat Texas is 2006 with the creative playcalling I thought he might the spark we need to get over the hump. After all, that game gave us the 7th win we needed to make a bowl.

but a week later we got handled by ku with ease...then romped in the bowl game vs. Rutgers.

Still held out hope we could build on a bowl season heading into 2007....and the Texas win made me buy into it...then Kansas came to town and kicked our asses and were clearly the better team. Then came the 4 game losing streak and this jackass showed his true colors.

I fully bought in to RP until the defense became laughable at the end of yr 2. The Fresno St game was the last straw for me. When Tisabar (or whatever his name was)was retained after yr 2, I knew we were in deep $hit. then, I heard some rumblings about how he treated high school coaches, and that was it for me.

Furthermore, when I couldn't GIVE a good seat(ticket) away 30 minutes before the OU kickoff last yr, people were laughing at us trying to sell for 20 bucks, I had given up on him. I knew he was in way over his head. It was a failed experiment, and I gaurantee this, if it would have been highly successful, Weefer would have taken 100% FULL credit for it and we'd all hear about. In the end, RP cost Weefer some embarrassment and tarnished his legacy, if he had one.
