MANHATTAN, Kans. - Bill Snyder is back. No, really. B-I-L-L S-N-Y-D-E-R is back. The real Bill Snyder.

He made his "official" return Saturday, minutes after Kansas State disposed of Colorado, 20-6. The victory made the surprising (too mild an adjective?) Wildcats 5-3 overall and 3-1 in the Big 12 Conference North Division.

For a team expected to finish below .500, a team whose only league loss was a 66-14 shellacking, it should have been reason to celebrate. After all, by the end of the day, the other five teams in the North Division all had two losses.

"It's not about being 3-1 or whatever we are," Snyder said. "It's about getting better. We didn't get better today, particularly on offense. That's why I'm upset. Am I proud of the fact that we won? Yes. But I don't want us to feel good about playing poorly."

Those who observed Snyder's first 17 seasons with the Wildcats could not remember another post-victory press conference where the 70-year-old coach had displayed such agitation. He twice hand chopped the air to emphasize a point and once even pounded the podium.

Translation: Snyder knows full well how the North Division race is falling into Kansas State's lap. He wants carpe diem, not wait 'til next year.

The man has his standards and they're high. For now, though, you can color the Big 12 North Division purple.

One of those things no doubt was the Kansas State defense. A unit that resembled a sieve last year is now more like a brick wall. The Wildcats allowed 429 yards per game in 2008. Through eight games, the defense is allowing 327 per game - and that includes the 739 yards allowed to Texas Tech. Remove the Red Raiders roasting and Kansas State is giving up just 268 yards per game.

 this guy.  I wonder if he knows where we are in the North Division standings.  He always pretends he doesn't even know how the start times are determined for the games from week to week.   :bs:

So, somehow, because you logged onto a message board, and read a quote that another guy wrote about Wefald, Wefald is "in your face?"  I'll go along with that.  I wish Hemmingway would get off my nuts.

Did you see the 5-minute ass-chewing Snipes got at Arrowhead for the personal foul?  It was the most in your face I'd ever seen Snyder during a game with a player.

What I saw later was better.  After the chewing several teammates came over and gave Snipes a pep talk (as they should).  Then, when Snipes made a big play later in the game Snyder was the first out on the field to meet him to congratulate him.

Snyder is a real coach.  He gets it big time.  Glad he is back.

Now, it is only going to get tougher from here.  OU next week will be tough (80,000 drunken Okies on Halloween and their talent makes it a tough game to say the least).  Then my guess is ku and MU will bring their A games (as will MU) due to their concern that they do not want to see a return of KSU as the key team in the North and personal issues for Mangino and Pellini.

Gonna be a wild ride the next 4 weeks.

I remember this.  My emaw crew and I were about to book it out of the stadium after the explosion, but none of the OU fans seemed to care or even notice.  We assumed it must have been a normal occurance or a firework blowing up accidentally or something since they weren't reacting to it.

That's what I get for trusting OU fans instincts.  WTF was I thinking?  Lucky for us the psycho didn't make it into the stadium..he apparently tried to.

One person who still does not get Snyder is ESPN's Tim Griffin.  I know he is a Texas guy, but how could he be this stupid...

"But getting the Wildcats back to first place is probably satisfaction enough for Snyder at this point of the season."

JFC, have you paid no attention Tim.

You know, when I think about it, I'm not surprised that Barnhouse wrote this.  When the conference was formed he followed the trendy national press lead and whacked Snyder a little (and repeated some inaccuracies).  I wrote him and he responded quickly and professionally (never saw that with many who have worked for the KC Star or Wichita Eagle) and he seemed to avoid easy mistakes and following the crowd after that (at least when I read his stuff).

Nothing like the tool writing in Virginia this year who went psycho when it was pointed out that Ron Prince didn't create a special teams tradition for excellence at KSU - a place where special teams had always been week before.

Yes.  I've been thinking the same thing since the UMass game.

At this point it appears to be an excellent strategy.  I'm going to stick with it.

We suck.  Everyone is going to kill us.

I remember hearing the explosion on TV while watching the game. I thought some car backfired or something then later heard it was someone blowing themselves up. Crazy Sooner fan..sacrificing themselves for a win over K-State. I guess that's what they do down there.

Snyd's playing with house money the rest of the year and doesn't care.  He's going to do everything in his power to kike this thing away from ku and NU.  Mangina and Pelini have given him no reason to believe that he can't.  Pinkell is brain-dead and couldn't x and o effectively to save his life.  I don't think we will win the north, but I also think OB'z is far and away the best mind in this division.  I do like Rhodes (a lot) and he should be getting some talk for Big XII COY.

What a great time to be an EMAW... Football is crazy and Frank has a great group of guys that could really do something special.  Now, if I could only get some more updates on that equestrian team......

I'm totally amazed by the folks that STILL fail to see Snyder for what he is. He isn't anybody else! He's truly his own person. He's not somebody else. You may not like his style but you can't argue with his results.  I love this man and the way he sets about things. He's the poster child for sawing wood. If anyone could ever sing "I did it my way" it would be Bill Snyder.

kus quarter back used the term "sawing wood". I wonder where that saying originated in football lingo? :kstatriot:
