SD,

Please provide more info on this getting more points thingies.  I have a work and a personal CC and get rewards on each, are you telling me, I sign up for one of these and I get more points :runaway:?  What's in it for these dudes?

Too lazy to read the "how it works".

TIA

I don't disagree that credit cards can be used responsibly.  This is the same as with guns, booze, cigars, etc.  Used responsibly and in conjunction with good budget, some people can handle them.  I didn't completely cut mine up until this spring once I decided that it would be hypocritical of me to take Dave Ramsey's Financial Counseling course while still having one.  All my bills were paid on CC.  All my motels for work were paid on CC.  Items in certain budget categories, such as vehicle repair and home maintenance, were put on CC.  I mostly paid for my SLR camera and zoom lens with rewards points.  But every time I used it, a came home and recorded it and pulled cash from that category's envelope.

Why would you let some random guy who wrote a book dictate how you live your life?  Seems like you were already winning?

You are wrong to assume that this is all about me and my finances.  I took the class to better understand how to help others.  I'm in it to teach people how to handle their (God's) money.

So many people are improperly educated about money and finances.  They learn what they know from a Visa commercial.  We are marketed to on such a large scale that it's nearly impossible to avoid that influence.  And when people watch the news they see nothing but a government that spends money it doesn't have.  It's hard to convince people that the same rules don't apply to them.

I want people to know that they don't have to believe in the myths of "we'll always have a car payment" or "I'll have to go into debt if I'm going to college."  All they have to do is learn a little self control and focus.

wait, you keep your money in various envelopes stashed around your house?  I refuse to believe that God thinks that's a good idea.

Just the monthly budget for food, household, clothes, and a few other things.  It typically amounts to less than you make in CC rewards every year.

God doesn't care about your money.

God doesn't need money.

You're right.  It's already His.  Are you using His money for your selfish means of for His glory?

Yep, just pick your reward program (I know for sure that Hilton, Delta and AA participate).  Then, everytime you eat or drink at one of the places that participate (tons in Omaha/KC but few in Manhattan) you get anywhere from 2 to 5 extra miles per $1 you spend.  I think they benefit by getting money from the places that participate hoping it drives traffic to their establishments.  It's pain free and you can sign up any card.

restaurant.com also looks to be really good in omaha. you ever done it? basically it's like this...they sell you a 25 dollar gift certificate for ten bucks. but they're always having like 70% off and stuff so you can end up getting that 25 dollar gift certificate for like three bucks. then you go use it. some places have rules like you can't use it towards alcohol or you have to spend at least thierty five bucks to use the 25 dollar gift certificate but omaha looks like it has a ton of places with very lax policies (low limits w/ no non-alcohol policies).

My bro/sister-in-law have done that.  They go to some sushi place that they get those from.  I may give it a whirl.

Yeah, WTF Lynch?

Ok, last question. Does it matter that I already have a delta/nw frequent flyer program or Hilton?  Is this a different point program or does it just add points to my current?  So confused.

No, you just enter your skymiles/hilton honors info.  Just hit one of the links I put in the first part of the thread and it will walk you through it.

go to slickdeals first and type in restaurant.com and you'll find the latest code to get an extra 80% off or whatever. never done it myself. no places in mhk. will most certainly change when nbaf comes though and mhk explodes in size.  :woot:

you can only be signed up for one place (ie Hilton, Delta, AA, etc.) at a time.

Pretty sure I'm signed up through Hilton, Holiday Inn and Best Buy all at the same time.

Paying off your credit cards every month no longer such a great deal.

http://www.usatoday.com/money/perfi/columnist/block/2009-10-19-bank-of-america-card-fee_N.htm

The only thing that would truly keep credit card companies from expanding this program is to have large numbers of people from the experimental group begin canceling their cards.
