I got calls in. Art's ducking me. But as soon as he calls, I'm on it. Sorry.

JM: "Freddy/Art, what do you think Freddy's style of play will bring the Wildcats something down low that they don't already have?"

edit, are you going to talk to Freddy or Art?

ART: Here's what he does best - Freddy is a 4,5, but he is so... so skilled. What I mean is his best ability is passing the ball, like Bill Walton. Can face up, play with his back to the basket... He could have gone to the draft. He's a guy who can play with his back to basket, face up, hands so strong... To me, and I was talking to Frank about this, he probably has the best hands and foot coordination of anything big around. He could play 12-15 feet away from the basketball... He's a guy who gets after it. His motor is always running. You can't cover him in the paint... You can't cover him. In the Sun Belt, they sent three guys at him. But he passes so well... His skill level at that height is off the charts.

ask him lots of questions about angel rodriguez tricoche.  really egg him on about it and see if you can get something particularly outrageous.

ART: Angel Rodriguez is a kid Frank has already offered. We placed him at Krop... Angel Rodriguez is a kid that Frank saw this summer and offered him on the spot. He's like J.J. Barea - he's a clone of Barea. A scoring point, tremendous off the dribble, can really shoot it. He hasn't been exposed, only played in a couple of tournaments. I know Miami, K-State, Florida State... Pretty much local schools. Only going to be a junior, two years left. When he gets exposed, everyone is going to be all over him. He's a high-major point, maybe replace Denis down the road. He's the real deal.

Ask him who else other than Angel from his neck of the woods is Frank/Dalonte looking at for the next couple of classes.

Oh, and ask him how much does Frank love K-State and if he gets an offer from a Big East school after this season, in his honest opinion, would he take it? :ohno:

ART: He's going to continue to recruit down here. From our organization, we were talking about this... Frank is recruiting New York real hard right now. Angel is a guy he really wants, and right now, I don't see anyone else he's really going after.

also, ask him if he were in charge of the NCAA, what measures would he take to make sure that what happened to Freddy at FIU, being denied a release, doesn't happen to other players in the future.

ART: It's very unfair. The athletic director and Isiah... AD told me it wasn't going to happen under his watch... Scholarships taken away from kids already, and how unfair was that? Wouldn't let Freddy go, though? Put the kid behind the 8-ball... Now he has to play JUCO or go JUCO, and only have two to play... This thing is a double standard. Really unfair what happened... It makes the kid step backwards.

And, I would add, pretty much make KSU beat writers look like slackers.

1.  Art has said in the past that Freddy may commit as soon as he has a visit to a school that "fits," and forgo other visits.  Did KSU "fit?"

2.  Art has said in the past that Freddy may leap directly from Juco to "the pro's."  In Art's opinion, is that exclusively for the NBA, or is Freddy in a position financially/life-goal wise where ANY "professional" opportunity is favorable versus one more year in school?   Ask Art, "Gun to your head, what do you predict Freddy will do...go pro in 2010 or play D1A basketball?"

He'll play Division I basketball. I've talked to general managers and scouts and they know he's a pro. It will have to be examined every year. There aren't a lot of skilled bigs. Not many 6-10, 275-pound skilled kids, and there aren't many of those in the country and a shortage in the NBA... But it's a year-to-year thing. By no stretch am I saying he's a NBA player right now, but the NBA drafts upside, and this is a kid who has tremendous upside.

ME: Who does he compare to?

ART: Of any bigs right now, Freddy is very unique. Not many people that big, that wide, that dominating with his skill level, and that's why Frank likes him so much. I don't see many other people like that. I don't know of anyone I can compare him to... Nobody has his skill package... He's a powerful four, like Beasley and the kid at Oklahoma (Blake Griffin). He's a powerful 280-pounder who will sit on the block and you can't move him. Skilled, but can move. Great hands, huge hands.

Thanks for saving the best for last, Jeff!

If he did, I missed it.  I am guessing no.

It has been pretty slow over there.  I think I would have seen it.

They flew into Kansas City, didn't take the American Eagle into Manhattan. Planes are too small for comfort for a guy the size of Freddy.

Well, Freddy's a big guy. But on the bright side, those flights will be great when flying in elite guards and small forwards.

Jeff, great job as always.  I have given up on my former hometown newspaper and the Star for that matter since you left.   :crybaby:

If I wanted the Jayhawk Slant version of events, I would just go there.

Mainly, I just wanted to be a part of the greatest post of all time on OOD.
