If you were Haverhill, which of these away games would you go to on ISU's Road Schedule?

Big 12 Tournament: March 10-13 in Kansas City, MO

I'm already going to the Duke game in Chicago, and most likely on the Cyclone Alley (student section) trip to Lincoln (for a total of $10). I'm looking for one good roadtrip to take with a friend down to the KC area. Is the Phogg all it is cracked up to be?? Right now I am leaning towards going to the ISU/ku game to chant 'no means no' to Sherron, but still haven't made up my mind completely.

Allen Fieldhouse is smelly and old.  Seems like they have to do construction on it every few years to keep it from falling apart.  Never does get rid of the urine odor though.

However, K-State fans are very mean to visitors.  Probably don't want to go to The 'Gon either.

Big XII tourney is your best bet.

The Big 12 tournament is the most entertaining sports event I have ever attended....and I say that after each time I go.

However, I have no advice for you on how to spend your day on Thursday of the tournament.  It's been quite a while since we played on Thursday...I can't really recall what it's like.  Take notes though, and come back on here and remind us!

@ The 'Gon would be a great game to see/experience for you.  But, since you can only make one game, go for the tourney in KC.  Sprint Center is nice.  uk's auditorium is hideous.  It's like watching a basketball game in an old folk's home.  The smell of urine literally saturates the entire building.  No good seats available for regular people, the fans are 90% assholes/10% , and the fans all feel super entitled while also being some of the least knowledgeable fans in the country.  However, if you like piss and poorly directed boos, you'd love uk.

Has anyone ever been to the Devanney Center in Lincoln? CycloneAlley is taking a trip there and I'm curious how big of a POS the building really is.

ku fans are worse.  I'd go to the BigXII tourney.  You'll have fellow fans to cheer with, probably not too difficult to get tickets for the first round, and you can say you've been if you haven't.

Big XII Tourny.  No question.  Especially since it's in KC.  

The setup is great.  Right across the street from the Power and Light District (big restuarant and bar district).  If you liking drinking, watching sports, and not working, the thursday-friday event in downtown KC is tough to beat.  If you go on Friday, you can even watch the Cats play their way into the Semis.  

Much better event than the OKC or Dalls version of the event.  Definately better than rubbing sweater vests and stickers with ku fans in lawrence.

Devaney is a POS. I haven't watched a game there but I have been inside and I can tell you it sucks.

devaney sucks and so does pregame stuff to do around it. i went last year. the game was on a saturday night and like half the places were closed and the other half were just dead. devaney average age of attendees is somewhere around 60 yrs.

allen does smell like pee. mass st. is decent.

OoD does not smell like pee and has very good value in their three dollar popcorns. aggieville is fun. kind of a long drive though.

i'm not taking the time to look but if one game is on the weekend and the other isn't then i'd do that one.

Devaney is awful.  You have to park in the mud next to the railroad tracks.  If the thaw is on, you might get stuck (since you are from Iowa).

Their concourse is about as wide as a Yugo.  If you're lucky, maybe you'll have a Husker football player twirling batons for the halftime entertainment.

If you go to the Phag, you'll have countless Squawks wanting you to validate how great their Armory is.

Haverhill, obviously I'm biased, but AFH is one of the top five venues in college basketball.  If you've never been, you should definitely check it out.  They just completed a $55 million renovation to AFH as well, making the place even more incredible.  I've been going to the games since I was born, and I've never encountered the "piss smell" that all these people have been talking about.  Maybe K-State fans just smell like piss.  Regardless, if you're a college basketball fan, AFH is an experience you won't regret.

This makes complete sense, K-State fans smell like pee everyday but only notice the rankness when inside the old barn.

I know I've suffered some hearing loss in this building. The old barn feel of this place is so nostalgic that it's hard to envision Kansas ever losing here.

Cameron Indoor Stadium (Duke)
The press row seats are a fire hazard and having sweaty students literally drip on you isn't pleasant but the atmosphere rocks.


Mac Court (Oregon)
The talk of dumping this relic and building a new spot downtown should stop. The overhang balcony has a theatre-like feel and the noise level, as well as the humidity from the moist air can make for an imposing home court.


Maples Pavilion (Stanford)
I know they've redone the place but I'll never forget interviewing Mike Montgomery amid crazed Stanford students, bouncing up and down on the springboard floor and being forced off my feet after Nick Robinson's 3-pointer beat Arizona last season. Trying to write on press row was a constant circus, as your pen would jump whenever a player passed or the fans continued to stomp.


The Palestra (Penn)
I'm not local to the city but I've been converted to the history of this joint. The love affair this city has with its D-I college hoops comes together at this shrine. The viewing from press row is perfect, although your back will likely be aching sitting on the bench seating. It's hard not to enjoy a game in this venue.

It's hard to believe I haven't been to this house just yet. I'll be there for Texas-OSU on March 5 to get this off my list.


Memorial Gymnasium (Vanderbilt)
The unique position of the benches and Vandy's usual home-court dominance make this a must see.


Hilton Coliseum (Iowa State)
Every game that is broadcast from this venue is crazed. You wonder how the Cyclones would ever lose a home game.


The RAC (Rutgers)
Big East coaches talk about how tough a road game this is for them so I've got to experience it first hand.


Bud Walton Arena (Arkansas)
If Stan Heath can get the Hogs going like Nolan did, then this will once again be one of the toughest stops in the country and I'll have to go see it to cross it off my list.

I love the respect Hilton Coliseum gets, even during a down period, on a national level. Is Bramlage similar to Carver-Hawkeye?.. where you walk in at the very top and all the seats are below? If so, horrible design, but I'll save judgement until I witness a game there. I hope to make it to 5/6 the Big 12 North Coliseums before I graduate from ISU.

Right now I'm at two lol.... 1) Hilton; 2) Mizzou
My hope this year is to make it to at least two more, Devaney is most likely a sure bet, and like I said in this thread, AFH.
