KSU's FY 2006 EADA report show KSU athletics with Net Revenue of $8.576 million dollars ... so, after all the bills were paid KSU atheltics cleared $8.5 million last FY year.   KSU had Net Revenues of $6 million the year before.

Hey, congrats to Tim Weiser for making sure KSU is one of the Top 20 most Net Profitable Athletic Departments in the Country.

However ... is KSU athletics in the business of making a substantial NET profit, or winning??

I project football revenues to be about the same this year as last at about $18.5 to $19 million.  I project KSU's basketball revenue to nearly double from $3.1 million to about $6 million.   I could see KSU's NET revenue for athletics pushing $10 million next year.

KSU's Gross Revenues were up $3.5 million year over year.

Is that enough to subsidize the damned scholarships?

we'll need some of it after we re-write huggins contract next april.

Both sides of the MBB ledger are getting increasingly heavy.
It costs more to run a winning program, so while gross rev's might increase, the same won't be said for net.

It wouldn't surprise me at all if our net revenue for MBB remained flat year over year, comparing 05-06 vs. 06-07.

What's the biggest revenue generator in MBB? I'd expect it to be the Big XII television contract.  It hasn't been renegotiated and I would think it'd remain flat which would make the increased attendance #'s nearly a non-factor.

I don't know what you mean Nation.

The budget pays for all the scholarships ...  the Ahearn Contributions more then pay for all the scholarships, the projected Ahearn donations are factored into the budget every year.

If you talking about Endowments ... then know.  It will take approx $85 more million dollars in donations to fully endow all the athletic scholarships.   Few schools have all their athletic scholarships fully endowed.   Endowments are permenant investments.

The athletic budget/ net and gross profits from athletic operations; and endowments are two different things.  The "revenue" from Endowments are factored into the athletic budget however.

Clams ... now way will net revenue for basketball be flat year over year.  This whole idea that Wooldridge didn't have money to spend is a crock.

KSU has doubled it's season ticket sales and there's no way expenses doubled.

Quick math-
15 home games x 7000 x $20 = $2.1m
15 home games x 13,500 x $20 = $4m
Difference of $1.9m

You're projecting an increase of $2.9m, the other $1m could come from increased sales of KSU gear, $8 pepsi's at the stadium, etc, I suppose, but you're still missing $1m after ticket sale increases.

I'm going to stand on my opinion that Huggins will spend more money than Wooly.

dax, what would you like for Weiser to do?   He's putting suites into Bramlage after this season and doing up the west side of Bramlage w/ the HOF wing and he has said the football stadium upgrade should come w/ in the next 5 years.

They are going to resurface the Ahearn track soon.

What is it they need to do in the interim?  I realize we have to keep moving the wheels forward but it looks to me like that is what we are doing, right?

In the meantime dump as much of this revenue and the fundraising campaigns into the endowments for scholarships.

Revenues will never go into the endowment that's just not how it works, endowments come from private contributions ... and 5 years from now it could very well be not even worth doing any facilities projects.
