I used to really love the old Iron Chef Japan but am really digging Iron Chep America as well.  With ICJ the food was really WTF a lot of the time which had it's positives and negatives.  Pisses me off that Marimoto is never picked on ICA though.  I get about 3 each of Cora/Flay/Batali/Symon for every one Marimoto  :curse:

Also, the chairman is LMAO over the top in the intros.  Love the sound effects when he turns his head quickley and how deathly serious he tries to sound when discussing the battle with the challenger before he picks the Iron Chef.

Ate at Mesa Grill strictly because I like Bobby Flay on Iron Chef.  Highly recommend if you are in NYC or Vegas.

batali is basically "woooheee. gabba, gabba. look ats me. ima making some fooda here. yippe squipy. gooba gaba. ima crazy guy look at me and my crazy clown shoes. food making is fun, no?" and flay is just like "ok. here's some food stuff that i'm doing. peppers. later." flay wins.

quick game here iron chef fans. i've posted 7 pictures below. six of them are iron chef batali and one of them is not. see if you can spot the imposter. warning: this is hard.

That is awesome.

Symon rocked it hard last night. Beat him by 5 points, all in the taste category. It seems that's where the IC always comes prepared.

Love that awesome judge that just slams people.

Symon:  It was my greek heritage coming through in love of some herb (or something)
Judge smarty pants:  Or was it your Cleveland heritage coming through in your love of overcooked fish? (or something)

I read an article on Mario Batali lately that made me rethink my dislike of him and now I am a fan.  These are the main points
Quote
–Spent most of a key internship in London under Marco Pierre-White allegedly fired up on cocaine while attending Joy Division concerts.

–Would polish off a case of wine at a time with his business partner Joe Bastianich during a single meal.

–Was, in his day, a highly successful ladies’ man despite his girth.

–Quoted from Heat about his tenure at the pizza cafe Stuff Yer face: “I don’t want to come off as a big druggy, but when a guy comes into the kitchen with a pizza pan turned upside down, covered with lines of crack, how can you say no?”

–Banned noted chef and dick Gordon Ramsay from his restaurants.

–Fond of hog jowl, offal, parts, and other delicious entrails and discard meats.

–From Wikipedia: “Often, the chef’s mouth and drinking habits get him into trouble, like when at the 2009 South Beach Food & Wine Festival, as the MC for a $1,000-a-plate dinner honoring the King & Queen of Spain the Miami Herald reported Batali releasing a string of profanities while on stage introducing Spanish chef Jose Andreas, and then proceeding to dry-hump Andreas. ”
While he is still my least fav to watch cook on ICA, I am now a fan.

You talking about this guy?  Sucky movie, but it also stars a young Alyssa Milano, it's worth watching just because of that.

Got to meet him at the Aspen Food and Wine earlier this summer.  Really cool guy.  Also, if I had taken a poll of all the regular chefs at the festival, I would say with utmost certainty they would rate Batali just over Morimoto in terms of actual eliteness.  Flay, Simon, and Cat would be lumped below those two guys.

Cora  :jeffy:

Too bad Cat only likes cat.

Interesting note about her (this may also apply to Daris' thread):  Her and her partner both became pregnant and are/were scheduled to give birth at the same time.  This seems like a great idea to me.  I mean, just one of the many benefits is that you basically have two sets of dinner factory in full production mode at the same time.

Seriously?  My order of goodness would go:

Morimoto
Flay
Batali
Simon/Cat tie

Also, did you guys see the one where Flay and Batali battled and they had Rachel Ray and Giada as their partners?  It was like a 2 on 2.  ADORABLE!

Morimoto is certainly an unbelieveable talent, but those guys have a ton of respect for Batali.  Most see Flay kinda like they see Emeril, more a personality and marketing phenom than a truly great chef.  Obviously, they're all badasses, some are just a bit more badass than others.

Moriomoto never wins because his meals are too far out there. You can definitely tell he was on ICJ.

Iron Chef  ↓    Specialty  ↓    Win  ↓    Loss  ↓    Draw  ↓    Total  ↓    Win %1  ↓
Mario Batali    Italian      20      4    0    24    83.3%
Cat Cora      Greek & Mediterranean    13    10    1    24    56.3%
Bobby Flay      Southwestern    25    12    2    39    66.6%
Masaharu Morimoto    Japanese    10    9    1    20    52.5%
Michael Symon    Mediterranean    7    2    1    10    75.0%

Wow, didn't realize Batali's record was that good.  I still think Morimoto is the best.  He was the best on ICJ too.  Did you see the ICA episode with chiles?  He hadn't used a lot of them before so he was just eating them raw to get a sense of the flavor while he started cooking.  Went like this:

Morimoto:  Hmm, what is this little orange chile? :eatsit:
Morimoto:  AHHH!  HABABERO FIRE MOUTH!!! (< but in Japanese)  :yuck:
sd:    :dancin: :ksu: (< but japanese flag)

That episode was great.

Does anyone else watch Throwdown? Love that show. My wife hated Bobby Flay so I started to like him just to spite her, but Throwdown is fun, even though he loses 90% of the time.

Damn White House lies to us again.  Apparently, they used "stunt vegetables" in the episode featuring Obama's chef.  Bastards.
