All Rise... The Judge is in the house.
Liked the way the first team offense and defense looked tonight. Still overall a lot of work to do.

A fade route on 4th and goal from the one? You have got to be kidding me.  :banghead:

I know it's preseason and it really doesn't matter, but that was a stupid decision by Gailey and/or Haley.

Its absolutely hilarious.  Yes, I as well know it is preseason, but can anyone remember the last time the Chiefs converted on a short yardage situation?

I can't, probably have to go back years.

W2W4 tonight vs. the Vikings

1. Can Matt Cassel move the offense?

After a preseason debut last week in which he couldn’t advance the offense past midfield, questions arose this week about whether Cassel has made enough of an impression during training camp. He’ll get another shot and is expected to play throughout the first half against Minnesota.

2. Is Dwayne Bowe out of Todd Haley’s doghouse?

After a productive week of practice, he has worked his way back into Haley’s good graces. Whether he starts tonight is another matter, but it appears that Bowe’s focus and work ethic have improved since he was demoted to third team last week. Now, he’ll have to carry that improvement to the game if he’s to stay in good favor.

3. Will the Brett Favre circus affect the Chiefs?

Haley said Thursday that he’s glad the Chiefs are playing in a tough environment tonight, in which Favre returns to the NFL with a new team. Haley said the conditions could be good for the Chiefs, but the defensive players also will have to be careful to not let their emotions backfire.

4. Can the defense repeat its success against Favre?

In last year’s game against the New York Jets, which was Favre’s team at the time, the Chiefs forced him into making mistakes. The new Kansas City unit needs confidence, and an unpracticed Favre might contribute if the Chiefs can pressure him.

5. Can the Chiefs get a win?

With only four victories, including the preseason, in the last 12 months, Kansas City is starved for confidence. Haley said that’s one of the Chiefs’ biggest problems, and it’s important for the team to learn how to finish games. Haley’s biggest challenge will be balancing player evaluation with the pursuit of a win, and tonight’s game against a possible Super Bowl contender won’t make it any easier.

1. Cassel played very well. He was 9-14 for 99 yards and lead the Chiefs to 10 points. They had two turnovers. I know that one of them was early, a Jammal Charles fumble, but I don't recall the second one. When I saw the Charles fumble I thought the team should have challenged it because I thought he was down.

2. D-Bowe added 3 catches for 37 yards (12.3 yards/catch) and a TD. He played well in the first preseason game as well, so I'm encouraged that he's with the program and will be a great weapon for Cassel throughout the season.

3. The defense played pretty well when Favre was in the game. He was 1-4 for 4 yards and was hurried more than once. It concerned me that Tarvaris Jackson was able to come in and play as well as he did.

4. See #3

5. Wins in the preseason don't matter to me so I don't care that the Chiefs didn't win this game.

All in all, keeping in mind that I only watched the 1st half, I was very happy with what came out of this game. This is the first of many building blocks for this team so I'd like to see the momentum kept up going into the Seattle game where the starters should get the majority of their playing time of the preseason.

The Charles fumble was caused by the ground, but he was not down by contact he just fell on his face, so it was a legit fumble.

Cassel looked much better with Bowe out there.  Anyone would look like garbage throwing to those other jokers that started the game.

I think this is a couple of days late but any opinions on the pair of linemen that the Chiefs picked up earlier this week?

Word on the street is that they will be backing up the already struggling o-line.  Great pickups.

5 Things to Watch Tonight in the most important preseason game, if there is such a thing, of the season:

1. Tyler Thigpen’s play

The Chiefs need to decide whether Thigpen is expendable, and he can help them with that decision one way or another. Thigpen probably won’t enter the game until the third quarter, but while he’s in, he needs to show he can operate from a conventional pro offense. His throwing accuracy after dropping back from center has been lousy.

2. Create turnovers

The Chiefs haven’t taken the ball away from an opponent in two preseason games. They have the personnel to get that done, and now’s the time to set the tone for the regular season. They’ve done a decent job against two strong rushing teams and have sporadically put pressure on the opposing quarterback but haven’t yet converted that to turnovers.

3. Better offensive-line play

Larry Johnson is averaging a paltry 2.8 yards per carry in the preseason, and Matt Cassel spent most of his time in last week’s game running for his life. All of that has to change. The Chiefs plan no starting lineup changes tonight but could give some guys a look. That list includes Ike Ndukwe at right tackle. If he plays well, he could be a starter by next week.

4. Ryan Succop

The last of the Chiefs’ eight draft picks is having the biggest impact yet. He’s kicked off well and shown consistency on his field-goal attempts. If that continues, he will be a steal of the draft.

5. Big plays at wide receiver

The Chiefs’ longest pass play of the preseason is 22 yards. That’s not all the fault of the receivers. Usually the quarterbacks haven’t had time to look down the field. But the Chiefs are still searching for someone to complement Dwayne Bowe. This would be a good week for Mark Bradley to have a big game. He might need one to secure a roster spot.

The Chiefs can be summed up by the following...

1. The o-line sucks
2. The o-line sucks

and

3. The o-line sucks something fierce...

1. Thigpen and Gutierrez were a combined 18-28 for 152 yards and 2 picks. If Cassel is out for any extended period of time, which I don't think he will be, we're screwed. We may be screwed anyway, though, with this mess of an offensive line

2. We finally got a turnover with Flowers' 28 yard INT return for a TD. Of course, in typical Chiefs fashion, he got hurt and had to leave the game

3. The offensive line only allowed the offense to accumulate 260 total yards (152 through the air and 108 on the ground) and they got Cassel killed. Offensive line.....BAD! BAD! BAD!

4. Ryan Succop made a field goal from 35 yards in the fourth quarter, but missed from 28 yards and had a 53-yard attempt carom off the crossbar with 4 seconds left in the first half

5. We did have 5 receivers with double digit yards/catch (Ashley Lelie, Dwayne Bowe, Quinten Lawrence, Rodney Wright and "Fine Dressed" Amani Toomer) but Mark Bradley may be on his way out of town

Preseason football is basically over in my eyes. I'm more optimistic about this Chiefs team than I've been about a Chiefs team in a number of years. I know we're not Super Bowl contenders yet but I don't think we're 3-13 or 4-12 bad either. I think we're going to be ok defensively and, as long as Cassel is ok, I think we have seen flashes of good thing offensively. If somehow we can find an offensive line that can block someone, I believe the Chiefs can surprise this year. San Diego should win the division by 5 miles but, with Denver and Oakland as the other teams the Chiefs are going to have to compete with, I'd like to see the Chiefs win 6-7 games this year.
