This is kinda Chiefs related and kinda not. If Jackson gets signed soon he'll be the 14th of 32 First Round picks to sign (44%) either before or right at the beginning of Training Camp. It always baffles me that it takes so long to even start the process of signing guys, I mean the Draft was in April, and that there is always a big rush before Training Camps start. Also, there are always alot of guys with lengthy holdouts. That doesn't seem like it's going to be the case this year. Anybody know why?

Got three more today I believe

26 of the 32 are now signed

One of the things that the coaching staff really wants to get a grasp on with this first preseason game (Saturday vs. the Texans) is who will return kicks. The answer will come from a pool that consists of sixth-round pick Quinten Lawrence, former Arena League star Rodney Wright and Dantrell Savage, the Chiefs’ leading kick returner last year.

So.....Who ya got?

Dwayne Bowe practicing with the 2nd team.  Your only good target apparently isn't impressing the new brass.

I have heard he isn't practicing hard so this is probably a ploy to get him to practice harder... obviously Herm Edwards burned it into these player's brains that the studs on the team don't need to work as hard... Just a step towards making this team better...

This is probably correct because he is still their best receiver, however; it doesn't bode well that he doesn't seem to be trying to get any better.

According to the KC Star, Terrance Copper and Devard Darling are the #1's at WR while Dwayne Bowe and Bobby Engram are listed as #3's. Could be a way for HCTH to get the guys' attention.

Maybe... or maybe he is just wanting to see how Darling and Copper respond to being the go to guys early... maybe those guys click better with Cassel than Bowe would... It's tough to tell what this organization is wanting to do so I will just sit back and watch.

ESPN Insider is doing a Season Preview for the Chiefs. A few highlights:

1. Jamaal Charles is a better fit at RB in HCTH's offense than L.J.
2. Damion McIntosh is done
3. Glenn Dorsey is a bust

Moving on

More Rumor Central.....

With incumbents Jarrad Page and Bernard Pollard ensconced as starters, the Kansas City Chiefs are apparently slotting safety Mike Brown in as merely a backup, a role with which Brown is fine, as per the Kansas City Star.

6-10 is better than 4-12. I'm just looking forward to watching a team with a direction for the first time since Marty left.

As much as I hate McNabb if you're going to have Vick and McNabb in the same backfield that could be very interesting.

Another interesting aspect.....

W2W4 Tonight:

1. QB Play

Matt Cassel, Brodie Croyle and Tyler Thigpen played unevenly at camp. That’s understandable because so much is new, but it’s time for some consistency from them. Cassel needs to reduce turnovers.

Unfortunately Tyler Thigpen was the only QB that impressed me. Those were beautiful passes to Rodney Wright and Brad Cottam on that drive and I was especially impressed by the throw to Cottam

2. Defensive Pressure

The Chiefs were encouraged when they got six sacks in last week’s intrasquad scrimmage, but tonight’s game is a much better barometer. They will be very basic, so they’ll need to get pressure with personnel rather than scheme.

The Chiefs did get two sacks (who knew that hitting the QB was actually allowed in football) but there were too many penalties and we didn't get any turnovers

3. Bowe’s work ethic

Hard work is all it will take for Dwayne Bowe to get back into coach Todd Haley’s good graces — and, more importantly, the starting lineup.

Good start with 5 catches for 70 yards (14 yards/catch)

4. The 3-4 defense

The Chiefs drafted defensive end Tyson Jackson third overall with that transition in mind. They need to stuff the run and pressure the QB or else it’ll look like more of the same.

The Texans averaged 3.6 yards/carry but the Chiefs only gave up two runs over more than 10 yards and like we discussed earlier they did get to the QB some

5. How Haley coaches

Haley has said he’ll let Chan Gailey call the plays — but he’s admitted to desires to take over when the offense sputters. He’ll have to keep his cool but make players understand that, although it’s the preseason, the tone will be set as the regular season approaches.

This point can be argued in many different ways. I'll leave this one open to interpretation.

There are some things to be learned, however; I wouldn't read too much into it.  But if they even looked halfway decent you chiefs fans would be jizzing your pants about how awesome they are going to be.  And yes, the chiefs are terrible.

Gotta be an upgrade from Jeff Webb :dunno:

Can't believe that dude made the team this long.

I guess, but I find it odd that since the Chiefs are seemingly having a problem with dropped balls, they went after the king.

W2W4 tonight vs. the Vikings

1. Can Matt Cassel move the offense?

After a preseason debut last week in which he couldn’t advance the offense past midfield, questions arose this week about whether Cassel has made enough of an impression during training camp. He’ll get another shot and is expected to play throughout the first half against Minnesota.

2. Is Dwayne Bowe out of Todd Haley’s doghouse?

After a productive week of practice, he has worked his way back into Haley’s good graces. Whether he starts tonight is another matter, but it appears that Bowe’s focus and work ethic have improved since he was demoted to third team last week. Now, he’ll have to carry that improvement to the game if he’s to stay in good favor.

3. Will the Brett Favre circus affect the Chiefs?

Haley said Thursday that he’s glad the Chiefs are playing in a tough environment tonight, in which Favre returns to the NFL with a new team. Haley said the conditions could be good for the Chiefs, but the defensive players also will have to be careful to not let their emotions backfire.

4. Can the defense repeat its success against Favre?

In last year’s game against the New York Jets, which was Favre’s team at the time, the Chiefs forced him into making mistakes. The new Kansas City unit needs confidence, and an unpracticed Favre might contribute if the Chiefs can pressure him.

5. Can the Chiefs get a win?

With only four victories, including the preseason, in the last 12 months, Kansas City is starved for confidence. Haley said that’s one of the Chiefs’ biggest problems, and it’s important for the team to learn how to finish games. Haley’s biggest challenge will be balancing player evaluation with the pursuit of a win, and tonight’s game against a possible Super Bowl contender won’t make it any easier.
