Overheard a convo at the OOD today between frank and I believe a large donor on the phone. To sum up Frank has wanted to play at least one game in Ahearn the past two years but was shut down by weefer and his minions. But since Frank and Mr. Currie are bff's currie is now on board and trying to get this set up.
Frank says he has heard all about all the historic games and homecourt advantage ahearn had and wants to experience the atmoshpere himself!!

Thoughts?   :ksu: :ksu:

Sure I have some thoughts.

To get "Ahearn Magic" means you have to pile about 6,000 people on cramped wooden bleachers that were literally built on steel frames prior to the start of every season around the court.  If you actually got to "sit" down during a game you noticed straight off that you had about half an ass cheek worth of space.  You also have to pile people into the steel balcony that people stomped on during games making more noise.

The Fire Marshall is never, never, never going to allow that now.   So why even bother to waste the money . . . if they were truly serious they'd just raise the money to totally renovate Ahearn and move the men's basketball program over there.   That way Debbie can have Bramlage all to herself.

The next argument will be the dumbass Keitzman point . . . well, they could sell 5,000 tickets at $125 a pop . . . hey that's great, but while 5,000 people in Ahearn with its $hit acoustics will be loud, it won't be anywhere close to what real "Ahearn Magic" was.   So why bother??

On 2nd thought . . . play the game, charge $125 a pop and see what happens.   If they sell all the tickets that they'll likely be allowed to sell, than take that as a clear indicator that plans to renovate Ahearn and move the men's basketball program back there should commence immediately.

Let the Volleyball Program and Women's basketball team have Bramlage.   Build a new indoor track and let that double as an auxiliary practice gym for womens basketball and volleyball when Bramlage is in use for things like Landon Lectures.   Turn Ahearn into a men's basketball only facility.

Wasn't old enough to do the Ahearn thing. I do like the way it looks on the outside though. Makes me think of Hoosiers for some reason. Nonetheless, OOD can be quite fierce itself, we just need to fill it more often to build up that reputation.

there aren't 5K people that will pay $125 a pop. it's a stupid idea pumped by stupid, old-ish ksu'ers who were the same stupid young ksu'ers who complained about ahearn and got us into the OOD in the first place.  the cost to renovate ahearn so that it could handle at least 10-11K (wtih some sort of level of comfort) absolutely has to be more expensive then enhancing the OOD.  Instead of trying to recreate the past, why not figure out ways to enhance the OOD.

Plz put in a good word to Frank to put in an a/c in both the gyms. tia.

And instead of playing an actual game in ahearn they could try and do the madness in manhattan there but the parking garage would have to be finished and they would have to open it up for that.

also I think OB should have the spring game at memorial stadium once would be awesome.

Just want to take credit for this idea (j/k). I did send a lengthy e-mail to Currie a few months ago explaining all of the benefits of playing a "throwback" game on Ahearn. I would be amazing!!!! :woohoo:

Took the words right out of my mouth!

How about a game against a lesser team as well, like Fort Hays?

From a financial standpoint, if we're only going to get 6,000 for this game and 8,000 for a game like XU -- if playing in Ahearn increases ticket sales by at least 10%, it's a positive.  From an AD's perspective it's about getting butts in through the door and charging as much as you can to maximize/optimize income.  If playing in Ahearn does this, then I support it.  If shelling out/investing in OoD is better, let's do that.

I would rather we spread the students section out (not to just the ends) and sold seez tix for sections 19-20-21 and charge $500/$750 per seat (similar to the rates for sec 18).  Also, I would split the seet zones so that rows 1-10 have to pay more than rows 11-on.

this is horrible idea for many reasons, but first off anyone who thinks sell 5k tix for $125 a pop to a lesser opp. and we could have an "atmosphere" of any kind is retarded.  old crusty men that are typical chairbackers would get first chance, buy them up, sit on ass all game mute, bitching about everything.

Remember men, this is the same place where "ksufans copycat" was posted.

One slogan that has virtually died out is “ksufans copycat.” The term was popular in the ‘50s, ‘60s and early ‘70s, and once adorned the front of the Ahearn Field House press box.

This legendary place is the birthplace of EMAW. Shuning a game to be played in this facility is very un- :kstatriot:. Turn in your EMAW badges men... for some of you have dishonored our birthright

They can paint a sign in the OOD that says ksufans copycat.  Hell, I'll do it over the summer.  I'll pay for the paint since the AD probably doesn't have the money to buy a few buckets.

Seems like it would be pretty expensive to set up bleachers and establish concessions and a ticket facilities (although that pretty much sucks at OOD) for just one game.
Would get a lot of media attention, however.
Someone should find the dusty old EMAW to rehang.

Think of it as a way to up the facilities for multiple sports, one that would also accomodiate VB. Im not a VB guy, but that's how I would pitch it to the AD and boosters. That place is pretty full during Punt the cvnt, and could be used for several events like that if it was rennovated.

That's a picture of Allen Fieldhouse.

Ahearn didn't have a center hung scoreboard until the Mid 1970's.
