There is like a 5 dollar cover.  You can't just walk in and start hitting it like a buffet as far as I know but I could be wrong. I've always known people competing who have tents and spreads of food and kegs.  I'm usually in a blind stooper while I'm there too so I never paid attention to what other people were doing.

To be honest, its a little lame if you're just planning to show up and check it out. I'm sure it's awesome if you have a tent and stuff.

That was my impression the last time I was there. Didn't know anybody with a tent, and wandered around aimlessly.

I have a tent with a bunch of emawers who just graduated. Look for the incredibly wasted former/wish they still were college kids in the tent by the stage. That will most likely be us.....
