It's bound to happen.  Some overhyped or underachieving player (or a player that never even makes it to campus) will be touted for future success and not live up to expectations.  Here are some of the key guys that fit the description.  Who else am I missing?

LB Marvin Simmons
LB Chris Patterson
QB Marc Dunn
DT Andrew Bulman
RB Daniel Davis
WR John Cooper
OL Ray Green (I think that's his name, the guy from Junction City)
CB Corey Reddick
DT Malcom Wooldridge (yes, he started at OG, but he was NOT good)
WR Danny Hogan (the video tricked us)
OL Matt Boss (maybe Prince had a hand in this?)
QB Nick Patton
RB Bubba Brown (no idea what's up with him now)
DE Jonathan Lewis
DT Steve Burch
DT Willie Williams
S  Courtney Edmond
OL Scott Krehbiel
DT Tony Gillespie (unless we end up landing him from juco)
WR Jerome Janet
TE Trayvon McGee
OL Chris Boggas
WR Julius McMillian

    IT'S DIVISION ONE FOOTBALL!!!
I would add Joe Hall.  Very talented with loads of potential.  Gifted athletically, especially considering his size.  Had tons of potential to be a great player, but wasted it with laziness/trouble.

On a similar note, I was told a while ago that Vince Young was supposed to come to MHK but his mom got sick and he wanted to be closer to her.  True?
I'd much rather have a 69 year old coach than one that weighs 400+ pounds.

All i know that we came in 2nd in the running for VY. That seems to be the run for all awesome athletes and KSU. Still not sure if I buy it.

This thread is tired.

We should do an all couldn't, shouldn't, wouldn't team. A list of players who had no business seeing the field but got significant playing time. Exceptionally relevant for the past couple of years.

I'll get it started,

Daniel Gonzalez.

I never felt that Marc Dunn ever was given a chance to succeed, he might have done well with an offense built to his strengths.

I was pretty young when this was going on, but my dad loves telling me about this kid.  Wasn't he supposed to be THE guy?  And all he ever did was throw up...went on for years.

Yeah, you've pretty much got the story straight.  He quit the team to go to the Mayo clinic without ever playing a down.  A few years later, he shows up out of nowhere and joins the team again, says hes going to be the starter.  same thing happened though, and he never played.  A year or two later, I was having some problems with my stomach, and had to see a specialist.  So I happen to say to the specialist "I wonder if I have the same problem as Cody Lee Smith"  The doctor rolls his eyes and says "No I worked with him and his problem is all in his head"  I was shocked that a doctor would say that, cause I thought that was a breach of client confidentiality.
