It could be more teams going back to power football like Paul Johnson has brought to Georgia Tech.  It could be a full evolution of the spread to having multiple quarterbacks on the field at the same time as passers.

Not to mention the fact that a quality running game eats up more clock and I think one of the few ways you can stop the OU/TTU type offenses is to keep them off the field as much as possible.

I understand what you are saying but if the spread was made to counter the run, how does the run counter the spread.  I know you will say because the D is geared more towards stopping the spread but there are spread teams that are good at stopping the run, and if your team cannot pass the ball i do not see how it benefits to return to the run.

A power games can worry less about the speed of the defense and try and run them over if they can. The team w/ the power offense can still have the defense that is designed to defend against the spread, but an offense designed to beat the "spread" defense.

i think the theory is that a power run team will control the clock more, making sure that they don't get that far behind a spread team.  in theory that would work...guess we'll see.

I do think it will be very interesting to see this evolve.  a power running game and a light fast defense. seems to fly in the face of all logic.
