It could be more teams going back to power football like Paul Johnson has brought to Georgia Tech.  It could be a full evolution of the spread to having multiple quarterbacks on the field at the same time as passers.

“All of the above [could happen],” Snyder said.  “I really believe that.  I think you’ll see some teams, and some already are, back into the veer.  I think you’ll see, if their personnel allows, teams gravitate back toward a running game.”

I like the idea of power football, because of contrary theory.  If the other 11 teams are running the spread, defences will be geared to to stop the spread and I want to run the ball.  If the other 11 teams were running the option, I would want to be in the spread for the same reason.

By the way, I'm vacationing in Michael Bishop's home town.  No real point to that story, just thought I would mention it.  Word is that his parents have a car thats all EMAWed up.  I'll see if I can't find it.

Not to mention the fact that a quality running game eats up more clock and I think one of the few ways you can stop the OU/TTU type offenses is to keep them off the field as much as possible.

Never would've thought that "sexy" & "bill snyder" would ever be used in the same story.

I like the words "power" and "football" used in the same sentence as our program without something adding a negative tone to the conversation.

I'd much rather have a 69 year old coach than one that weighs 400+ pounds.

I understand what you are saying but if the spread was made to counter the run, how does the run counter the spread.  I know you will say because the D is geared more towards stopping the spread but there are spread teams that are good at stopping the run, and if your team cannot pass the ball i do not see how it benefits to return to the run.

I always thought the spread was made to get the ball to players in space? Regardless, most defenses designed to stop the spread are needing to be fast. Sometimes size will be sacrificed. A power games can worry less about the speed of the defense and try and run them over if they can. The team w/ the power offense can still have the defense that is designed to defend against the spread, but an offense designed to beat the "spread" defense.

I'm just not sure where I stand on this.  My question is how fast can a running team score.  Let's say they get behind by 14 with 5 minutes left.  Can they score and then stop the other team and score again that fast?

i think the theory is that a power run team will control the clock more, making sure that they don't get that far behind a spread team.  in theory that would work...guess we'll see.

I do think it will be very interesting to see this evolve.  a power running game and a light fast defense. seems to fly in the face of all logic.
