is doing stuff alone-eating out, going to a movie, drinking, etc weird or no?

used to kind of feel bad for people flying solo but have kinda changed recently. will be going out of town solo in a few weeks and absolutely can not wait. already researching stuff i wanna do/see. places i would want to eat at, etc. maybe even bring golf clubs. four or five days of not having to have actual conversations w/ anyone.  :dancin:

All that stuff solo is great except for golf.  You will get grouped up with people you absolutely can't stand.  The other stuff you can pick and choose if you want to interact with people or not and then you get to pick which people.  Solo travel is the best.

oh no, that sounds absolutely horrible. will not do the real golf thing then. will probably bring a couple of discs and play some disc golf though. that kind of grouping up does not happen in disc golf.

when you travel solo do you usually go all out and do a lot of stuff or just stay at the hotel and hang out? i usually just hotel it, but not this time. going to try and mix it up/get after it.

I go medium out.  I won't leave the area the hotel is in but will usually pick a place in a downtown district or whatever so everything is in walking distance.

much easier to travel with someone instead of trying to explain coolness of trip afterwards.  too hard to explain foreign things and coolness factor.

'pends on the course. Sometimes you can get an early tee time all by your lonesome. I prefer the early tee times and usually mentioning that I like to play fast gets me on the course by my self with no strange people to bug me.

Dining alone can be dicey. You have to make sure to avoid places that have a host stand/please wait to be seated sign. If you choose to go to such a place you can't avoid having some frumpy 15 year old girl looking sadly at you as she reaches for one menu and asks you sympathetically, "just one today?" Can be rather humiliating. A solo diner can counteract this with an enthusiastic, "hell f^cking yes" but alas most people aren't capable.

I'm at the Hilton Garden place or whatever as I type this. I walked all over downtown and finally ran into "Jazz". It said "Po Boys Chicken, Shrimp, and whatever" on the door. Had the blackened chicken and 2 bud lights.

That place is OK.  It's a chain though iirc.  Did you go down to the old market?  Should go to Upstream (< pimp this place to everyone...they should start paying me a commission)

I met some guy on the shuttle from the airport who works for the same company as I, and he told me where the restaurants are. I got completely lost and ended up settling for Jazz. I'm getting free dinner tonight I'll let u know how it is/ where it is

It is a tragedy because now, we have at least an extra month without Cat football until next year. I hate wasting my life away but I can hardly wait until next year.

you're going to be a couple of weeks early for taste of chicago. that would be fun to do solo. when i used to go to chicago solo, i'd always head down to cabrini green neighborhood. been a couple of years though. hear it's still nice.

downtown (north loop).  was planning on hitting up the free nights at the Art Institute and modern art museum.  beyond that...no plans.
