I hate to bring more facts and objectivity into the discussion since this thread's so full of EMAW retardation, but Jake Laptad had 7 sacks and 2 safeties in '08, compared to just 3 sacks and no safeties for Brandon Harold.

More like Joke Laptard.    :base3:

Laptad... over twice as many sacks as Harold and 2 forced safeties.

I'm not the one claiming that ku's d-line is one of the best in the Big 12, or that so-and-so is better than any player on K-State's d-line.  All I've said is that ku has some nice depth at d-tackle with Johnson, Greene, Blakesley, and Parish.  I've got my own hopes for guys like Kevin Young and Quinton Woods, but I'm not going to start pulling a Manhatter and act like they're going to come in and dominate from day one.

When have safeties been used as a measuring stick for one's on the field success?  All a safety is, is a tackle for a loss that just so happened to be near the opponent goal line.  A more objective stat, then, would be to look at total tfl's and not just the tfl's that happened to be near the goal line (a position that the special teams, and not Laptard, put the defense in).

So, let's look at total tfl's, shall we?  Laptard has 8.5, and Harold 10.5.

Safeties? Seriously?  That's like saying Jesse Tetuan was a better defender than Aqib Talib because Jesse Tetuan blocked a punt once.

What will Mangino's new cheat strategy be to compete with Kstate's recruiting from here on out....

The loss of Aqib Talib and also James McClinton were the main reasons for the dropoff defensively in '08.  Not Bill Young.

ku returned 9 starters. NINE.

losing two players is no excuse for giving up 45 to nu, 37 to mu, 63 to tech, etc...
It is a tragedy because now, we have at least an extra month without Cat football until next year. I hate wasting my life away but I can hardly wait until next year.

Who are the KS top 10 for this year?  I don't know and I don't know where to look.  Help a brotha.

i have absolutely no idea who's making the KS top 10 for 2010 but if i had to guess, i'd say its:

1.  Justin McCay
2.  Blake Bell
3.  DeMarcus Robinson
4.  Joseph Randle
5.  Lucas Vincent
6.  Geneo Grissom
7.  Devin Hedgepeth
8.  Tre Walker
9.  Derek Campbell
10.  Grail Brewster or Chaquil Reed

dude is a beast he put up over 700 combined yards vs. our middle school team 7th and 8th grade, got 4 TD's in the freshman game turned around scored 2 more the next day playing Varsity. Led the Centinal league in rushing last year as a Junior he's pretty good would like to see him EMAWing it at  :ksu:

Those two players were (1) 1st team All-American, top 20 NFL Draft pick, (2) Big 12 Defensive POY.  Nebraska put up 39 on ku in '07, Mizzou put up 36 on ku in '07... the defense wasn't much different aside from not having its two best players.  Losing Bill Young was pretty much irrelevant.

If this is true, then shame on the Manhattan Football programme. You have a Freshman that stars on the Varsity, and yet you still play him in a Freshman game??? Thats pretty bad! Maybe thats something to do with why they lost the Varsity head coach this year.

Is there something wrong with that?  I played JV and Varsity as a junior in Colorado...are Kansas HS rules different?

Correct Hemmy, I was not saying it was against the rules.
I also played JV and Varsity as a Junior. I played on a team that also had two players (one ended up playing for KSU) that were good enough as Soph. to play on the varsity squad. But since they were that good, our coaching staff had enough class to not play them in the Soph. games or the JV games.
If the Manhattan High coaches played a Freshman that played for the Varsity team, also play in the Freshman games, that might be a part of the problem as to why the head coach got axed. I am sure that parents and members of the school board didn't approve of this either and they have a way of getting what they want.

If I was a football coach I would do this.  Seems like a great way to win both the freshmen games and the varsity games.

Lemme guess,
As a kid you played football but sat on the bench or was only a special teams player because you were a senior and the coach wanted to get you your letter so he put you in on KO & KO return.
You played many sports but was a loser in everything you played and never did worth a crap.
As an adult, you play softball and you are one of those "softball guys" that takes the game WAY to serious and probably wear your old baseball socks to the games. You act like every city league or church league game means something and you get really mad when their is a bad call and cry to the umpire that is making $5 to put up with your crying immature attitude.
If you have kids, you are a parent that drives your kid to do so well that you make your kid cry in the yard cause your pushing him/her too hard and it will eventually come back and bite you in the arse when they are teens. You think everything is cool with them now because you feel your pushing them will lead them to stardom later in life. You do this because you yourself sucked horribly in sports and inside you know it, and you want your kids to be better than you were.
Now you can deny this all you want, but if it's right, you know for yourself, and when you lay down at night, you will know inside that I am right and I pegged you exactly for what you are.

I had the most touchdown receptions on my 7th grade football team (3).  Who's the loser now?
